A couple steps closer
The day is slowly edging closer to me getting a hamster.
However
Before I start, there is a tl;dr at the bottom.
I have to do something that I intending on staying away from: a bin cage. It wasn’t because I wasn’t completely against it, I just didn’t want to do it. But with some recent developments, a bin cage is the best option for the moment.
Story time! Skip along if you want, I won’t be offended. At the end of May/beginning of June, I had back to back vacations, one being with my band down to Orlando and another with my parents up to New York City. At the end of the band vacation, our older dog had apparently gotten into the trash and got into a foil-wrapped sausage. We kept an eye on her, she was drinking but not eating, and throwing up. We had to take her to the vet, where three days later we had to say goodbye to the best girl that I couldn’t be happier to spend 14 years with.
Anyway, we go on the New York vacation and we come back, and I’ve had this out of emptiness because I’m just not used to having one animal run around the house (my cat, Kizmet). So, this put into motion getting more things in order to be able to get a hamster. In addition to the things I had, I now have a 12" wheel, not mesh of course, a puzzle toy I bough, a puzzle toy I made, and a glass water bottle. As for the bin, it’s unfortunately just over the minimum for a Syrian at 680 sq. Inches. I think the minimum is 650ish? I can’t look at my book of resources right now because I’m in the car. Anyway, I am definitely getting a custom made, much larger cage sometime, but with the vet bills with our dog, we can’t swing getting the wood I want right now.
Tl;dr: I got more stuff for the hamster, don’t have it yet, but getting closer to having one.
