I just saw your ask about the ghouls' backstories, and wanted to mention; either Gil's parents are tentacle monsters, or Deep Ones, because they are giant tentacled masses that speak in a language only Gil can understand.

Well, Deep Ones are fishy/froggy vaguely humanoid things, so signs point to eldritch abomination tentacled beasts.
