Learned a new technique to create bands instead of big squares. I really hope the reddish purple spotting (oxidization) remains after the harakeke dries.

Māori weaving is unique in Polynesia because they weave harakeke on an angle. My teacher thinks it’s hilarious, because when she was a kid she saw a huge ass roll of Samoan mats and was like, “The harakeke over there must be really tall!!!” And her mum was like, “No, they weave straight so they can keep connecting big mats up.”

The angled weave is limiting, but it’s beautiful, too.
