Babel, An Arcane History by R.F. Kuang

The front cover of the book features the English title of the book hand foiled in gold. Around it are Bible verses written in Cantonese Chinese (Genesis 11:8-9) hand foiled in silver.

The back of the book is like a mirror of the front except that it has the Cantonese title of the book hand foiled in gold, and around it is the English translation of the same bible verses.

Fanbinding: The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized by the_ragnorak

42nd Project, 60th Bound Book, Binderary 2026 Book #1 The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized by the_ragnorak (@ursavorpalis) Date Completed: 02/07/2026 Size: Legal Quarto.  310 pages, 62,168 words.

This is an Inception AU I typeset during a period of forced inactivity last summer, so I’m not sure I can fully remember details or thought processes behind some of the typographic choices I made.  Swirly scene dividers?  Sure, why not!  No press name on the title page?  Okay, I guess.  The body font is Liberation Serif, which is literally the default in LibreOffice Writer (the program I use to format things).  I do remember thinking the fact that the Pirate Bay title font doesn’t stick to a level baseline fit the chaotic vibes of the fic as Eames drags Arthur from pillar to post.  So much for decisions made while supervising my grandfather and his dementia during a hospital stay.

For the cover I wanted to branch out a little bit from my usual bookcloth-and-decorative-paper quarter bind style but I’m not yet confident enough in my HTV skills to try a full cover design.  The motif in the corner on its own took a couple tries to properly adhere.  The TV image comes from Canva and was chosen as a nod to the Gil Scott-Heron poem/song the title is referencing.  Plain kraft cardstock for the endpapers to keep with the minimal vibe, but they were sewn instead of tipped on with glue for a bit of variety.

Sorry in advance for the huge photo dump and way too many exclamation marks but I just finished my very first 100% handmade book and am near delirious with happiness how it turned out! 😁

Thank you SO MUCH again to all of the wonderful authors who kindly gave me permission to bind their amazing short stories for this project (full list of stories here, check it out - I beg of you - they are all so incredibly good). But even more importantly: Thank you for creating all of your fantastic stories and sharing them with the world!!💚😁

Fanbind: a darker blue by @skiitter

I chose A Darker Blue by @skiitter as my contribution for a white elephant exchange we did at a meetup with binder friends in Berlin this weekend- because simply more people need to read this masterpiece!

It is one of my absolute favourite Dramione fanfics and I was thinking for a long time how I could best transport the very poetic, moody and cabin-by-the-sea vibe of this story into a bind. In the end I decided to try something completely new and opted for a handpainted cover.

Did I have any idea what I was getting myself into? No. Did I curse myself in-between? Oh yes. But in the end I really love how it came out, especially the back cover. And acrylic paint is such a great flexible medium for a cover, so I will certainly do it again 👌🏻The incredibly beautiful typeset is by my dear friend @curies_curiosities who kindly let me use it for this bind.
