Oh, found another Binderary project just sitting pretty in my drafts!
This is a commission I did, a nice Secret Belgian bound Untamed-themed notebook.
The picture on the cover is an inlay, the pages are printed with kanji grid, and there’s a nice pocket on the back cover.
(The commissioner specifically requested that the notebook is still oriented left to right.)
I bound my first ever book! It's a little 5 hole pamphlet bind with some old printer paper that got bent when we moved. The cover is 100lb/270gsm acid-free cardstock. I used unwaxed linen thread to sew it. There's 10 sheets/40 pages in total. I wanted to make something simple that I wouldn't be afraid to mess up before trying any real fanbinding.
Definitely the messiest part was trimming the pages. Sanding it down afterward helped a lot, but I think I need a better/sturdier knife than my little craft blade.
For a first attempt, I'm really pleased with how it turned out! Not a huge disaster at all. Also, I discovered that the long thin trimmed bits of paper are irresistible to my cat, especially if I trail the tip through her whiskers.
A teeny tiny book journal I bound a few weeks ago. I finally got around to guilding it today with some copper paint. I messed up the title, but since it's just for me it's fine.
I've been experimenting with painted edge guilding lately, and it's easier than I first thought. The only thing that I need to be diligent about is to cut the edge as well as possible before sanding it. That's a bit tricky at the mo' since I'm just using a flimsy break away knife, but it's getting better! And I'll hopefully get a new knife when uni starts again in autumn.

i made a few of these on a whim around the holidays to give to friends, i love how they turned out. i wanna learn to do the binding on my sewing machine eventually.
i made a little hand-bound collaged notebook to keep my song lyric ideas and to-do lists in. now i will hopefully come home from work with less scraps of paper every day lol. i’ve been wanting to collage for a while and have had a block about drawing so this felt really good to make.
