Jack Agnew is a promising, 21 year old, wheelchair racer from Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland.
Jack has been paralyzed from his waist down for all his life because of spina bifida. This is a congenital condition in which there grows a malformation in the spine during pregnancy, causing damage to the spinal cord.
During his time in primary school, Jack loved playing wheelchair basketball, but after watching the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, he started to take interest in the sport of wheelchair racing. After attending a try out, he instantly knew that this was the perfect sport for him!
Jack is a member of the Torque Wheelchair Racing Club in Banbridge. Some of his highlights include competing in the 2018 Commonwealth Games as one of three Northern Irish para-athletes and he was also a double gold medal winner at the 2017 World Para Athletics Junior Championships.
After recovering from a nasty back injury, Jack is now aiming for a good result in the upcoming European Championships. His ultimate goal for the future though is qualifying for a place in the Paralympic Games.
