One of the most frequent questions I get asked is about working hand function. A lot of people think that walking again is the big dream, try going a day without using your hands and arms and you'll quickly realize that the use of your hands is probably more important than walking again. You literally can't get out of your home without your hands unless you modify things, you can't use your phone, can't get things out of your pocket, can't unbuckle your seat belt... With that said, I do a lot to work on my hands and arms but it's usually much more tedious and boring than working out. I try to use daily tasks for therapy so I can accomplish daily chores while working on my recovery. My left arm came back at year after my right, and I'm right handed so I really have to stay disaplined to work both sides and not compensate with what's easiest. One of my favorite things to do for therapy is dishes lol. So fun right? For me it's great because I can do it standing or sitting, I have to reach, bend, and use my hands and arms with varied weight and grips. I still have to test my patience by doing a lot left handed but no joke, I put on music and knock out doing the dishes just like it's a gym routine or therapy. I'm much faster and coordinated now but I've also been doing the dishes for years and working up to this. Laundry, dishes, brushing my teeth left handed, cooking... All great for therapy and a way to gain independence or help those you live with. PS. Can you catch in the video where I cheat and compensate with my good hand? 😳 #lifeistherapy #quadriplegia #tetraplegia #therapy #disability #paralysis #occupationaltherapy #physicaltherapy #recovery #handfunction #dexterity #progress #littleeveryday #thelittlethings #motivation #discipline #dedication #hope #faith #mylife #myjourney #believe
