I wore this hama kei look for fabric shopping with a friend (minus the wrap, only added that for the picture. I brought it in case it cooled down but it didn't).

Gilet, skirt & necklace: handmade by me.

The j-fashionshow at Aninite 2022 was great fun!! We had so many diverse styles: mori kei & dark mori, many lolita styles (gothic, sweet, steampunk, casual), yami kawaii (x2), kogal (x2), ouji (x2), dual kawaii and himekaji. Hope I didn't forget one! Everyone looked gorgeous for sure! 💗

Mori Kei at Aninite Fashion Show 2022 - Part II

I'm steadily working at my outfit for the j-fashion show at Aninite 2022. I'm going to represent mori kei (yay!).

My bottoms are now finished!! In this post I'm showing the fabulous circle skirt I've made out of a round table cloth my greataunt crocheted around WW2. We don't know if she crocheted the table cloth before or after the war - we just know it's old. My mum had in storage for over 40 years. It's way too pretty to languish in a linen cupboard!! My mum even wanted to give it away now. I've asked if I could have it and turn it in the skirt. Guess the answer!

Construction was super simple: cut a hole in the middle, handstitch to a a band (and realise you made it too tight, seamrip apart and start over), zig zag stitch to death so it won't come unraveled, construct a simple waistband and sew the two parts together. Voila!

I wanted to wear the lace belt I made for the Aninite j-fashionshow and styled this outfit around it.

Consists of: handmade dress & belt, bought shawl (worn a bit like a short- sleeved cardigan) & scarf

Mori Kei at Aninite Fashion Show 2022 - Part IV

I made this layered circle skirt from an old duvet cover. It had holes in some parts and thus I decided to repurpose it.

The fabric has this beautiful white-on-white machine embroidery on it. Almost like abstract flowers. (You can see it slightly if you click on the pictures to see the big version.)

I cut 2 circle skirts for a layered effect and asked my Instagram followers whether I should add about 10m of ruffle and of course they were all enablers and I did end up adding those 10m of ruffle! Gathered down by hand, no less. The second layer has a narrow hem.

I'm going to wear this skirt as an underskirt for my mori kei outfit for the j-fashion show at Aninite 2022. But as evident by the last picture this pretty skirt can also be worn "out" on it's own!

Mori Kei at Aninite Fashion Show 2022 - Part V

This fabric made it from the moodboard to a finished blouse! I had multiple ideas for what blouse to make but ultimately I wanted to use this gorgeous leaf fabric. Fabric sometimes will dictate what kind of garment it wants to be and this leafy one wanted to be a flowy blouse!

I never used this pattern before but I really liked how straightforward and easy to construct the blouse was. Only slightly weird thing was the button placket: it turned out too short (even with seam allowance) and because I didn't feel like cutting out a new one (and ironing interfacing on) I made sure the short edge was at the bottom and zigzagged it tightly to stop fraying.

Another slight misstep was that I stitched the last button hole the wrong way round. The inside is usually messier and I didn't notice I had treated the left side as the right side. The messier side would have been on the outside and that would always have bothered me. So I cut off the wrong buttonhole and in the process the fabric frayed a bit more and I ended up redoing the hole larger. So I also switched to a bigger button to go with that. A happy little accident, as I think the one bigger button looks quite cute!

I'll post actual wear pictures in the future. The pattern is very easy to sew, but I might tweak a couple of things in the future when I sew it again.
