 Concrete Is Beautiful

Gio Ponti : Villa Planchart  1953-1957

One of the most beautiful houses designed by Gio Ponti is Villa Planchart for Anala and Armando Planchart in Caracas, Venezuela.

The design process between Milan and Caracas was documented through drawings acompanied with significant annotations related on views, landscape framing and circulation diagrams where spatial design was meant through hierarchy by activities organized around a courtyard, rooms with large heights and views throughout the inside and outside the house, at every angle. The Villa was built on the top of a hill —later called 'el cerrito'—with concrete slabs as main structure  and colorful ceramic tiles for interior finishes.

Fortunately, the house preserves as the original design and takes part of the Venezuelan architectural heritage.
