This drama, tying together criticisms of the bourgeoisie, inherent yet ignorant feminine sexuality, and the affairs of a small community is an early, but certainly noteworthy piece of Buñuel. Jeanne Moreau is absolutely perfect for the protagonist role, Celestine--and portrays the poise and tension of a professional woman to a t!
