Handsome ? Nooo... just a bit...
My day with David Duchovny (well.. sort of ;-) 2016 may 12th - Paris
I arrived at 9am at the FNAC St Lazare to try to obtain the precious invitation that gave access to David’s signing session.
I started to chat with the two young ladies who were in the queue with me: Audrey & Elise.
I was number 115 in the queue. At 10am on the dot, they gave out the invitations.
We stayed in line and were invited to wait in the backstairs ;-)
We had to wait for more than two hours.
I met Mary who went to the two last concerts (Luxemburg & Amsterdam). We chatted for a long time.
In the signing room, we noticed that the file was organized “Disney-like”. We knew we wouldn’t see much ;-)
Luckily David entered the room by the door which was in front of us so we had the chance to see him at last.
First impressions:
- Unreal
- Tired face
- No real smile
- Not that tall!
- Really thin!
- Handsome, and look his age ;-) I am 50 so I can appreciate ;-)
He started by giving an interview with the help of a translator. What I remember is that a 11th season of X Files was a possibility, that he had a 3rd book ongoing and another album planned. He made a joke on the translation of BFD.
He told us a story about his French teacher when he was in school. She was a French woman which used to make little sounds with her tongue when he was making mistakes.
Then it was time for the signing of his book Holy Cow (nothing else was allowed for signing). I really had the opportunity to have a good look at him the nearer I came. He is handsome. Really.
The staff made sure the signing was happening in a really fast fashion so when my turn arrived, I barely had time to look at him or say something. I gave him my scrapbooked card and he signed the book (no name on it, just his signature, which was the case for everyone else).
Round 1 #check
My legs were shaking a bit after that. I needed some time to gather my thoughts.
Then I came back home, took a bath and changed clothes…I needed a break to regain my composure!
Round 2:
I had arranged to meet at 16h45 with Céline, Cendrine & Sandra (girls that I met on Twitter) in front of la Cigale (concert hall) so that we could be together for the Meet & Greet session.
We could immediately feel that the connection was good between us!
And my little fairy Sandra told me that she had an extra ticket and that’s how I came to sit in row C instead of H!
We waited for a long time before they opened the door for the Meet & Greet session. We were given a paper bracelet and a printed picture of David (the art cover from the album).
Another round of waiting and we finally met him by group of 4/6 people at a time.
Now I was able to admire him at length. The lights were good, he was dressed the same as he was in the morning: white trousers and light blue shirt – and as I said… so handsome.
When my turn came, his pal Matt took my bag and I made a joke on how heavy it was ! He winked at me and said “we’ve seen each other before, right?” (Really charming, I think he was Matt Warshaw).
And here I am in front of David and…I can’t remember what happened. I think I said “hi, my name’s Valérie”. He said my name, signed the picture and I gave him the scrapbook mini book that I created with pictures of his previous concerts. He said “oh nice, thanks”. I told him he had a promise to respect and he answered he always kept his promises so he signed my copy of Bucky F*cking Dent and Michael’s Macari picture from his Glasgow’s concert.
He took me by the shoulder, we smiled for the picture and…I said goodbye and thanks…
Pffff….
That went too fast…. He was friendly, but I can imagine that sort of meeting is kind of boring for him.
The girls and I went out. We were totally distracted by this meeting. We went to McDonald’s for a drink and my daughter Léa came to meet us. Aurélie (another fan girl) joined our group as well. We had a very good time together.
Then back to the concert hall. There was a long queue; many people were there to attend the concert. I saw Audrey & Elise in the queue.
I bought the CD for Mag (meet on Twitter)
Then it was total bliss. Sandra & I were in the 2nd row in front of the mic.
French Tobacco opened the night for David: he is a cute talented singer!
Round 3 :
And then…the concert we’ve been waiting for so long to attend!
David wore black trousers, a dark blue t-shirt and white Chuck Taylors.
He wore a black belt too, and we could have a glimpse at his boxer shorts (Michael Kors btw) when he put his arms up… because I think that he has already lost weight since the first gig in Glasgow. Dawn he is really thin !
He managed to speak a bit of French, which was really cute. And the songs came by and went.
He jumped and run all the time ! He gives very much to the audience.
He is a real great performer, if not a great singer. He is more like a crooner.
A few anecdotes:
- Panties were thrown to the stage (???) and he gave these to his guitarist Nathe saying there were for him as he was single (does it mean that David isn’t?). It was a bit awkward after that.
- He had a chord wrong while singing SQUARE ONE (he made fun of himself, it was cute).
- He kicked in a small water bottle by mistake and it stroked someone in the audience so he made some apologies…
- He asked us to get up and dance.
- He said his dad’s wife was in the audience, that his dad used to live in Paris and he dedicated the song Stars to him.
- He went in the audience twice (for a long time the second time) and touched people’s hands, especially those who were farther away from the stage. Touched my hand…
- He walked next to us several times and brushed Mary’s cheek: she literally burst into tears.
The show lasted after 1 hour and a half, he had a real blast.
I met Walt from @duchovniacs outside the hall, and his wife Laurice.
It was one of the best day of my f*cking life !!!!

- At one point he looked down at the floor where his mic stand was and said I’m making a fucking mess up here", he had spilled his water and then spilled his drink and there was a puddle at his feet. He then said “Im going to electrocute myself”…later his picked up his water bottle which was dripping everywhere and later again he picked up his drink (something orange) and spilled it on his shirt and said “shit”
