someone of them once stated that nothing is really canon unless its stated in the game, so i wouldn't worry too much about it. Just take them as serious as the comics I guess qvq
yeah, you mentioned, hence the “I’m not paying real money for glorified fanfic” part :’) Which is just me being salty, that’s not a respectful thing to say about fanfic. I just wish it came with tags xD If I knew they’re not all completely cishet, then I would consider it tbh
u go, love the blog already!
aw, thank you!!! this blog doesn’t have much content yet but i’m always on the lookout for more quotes!
>:3 Brick & Mordy
Ahhh, the OTP! Thank you, darling <3
Brick (aka, my most terrifying ray of sunshine)
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
Mordecai (aka, my personal problematic fave. He’s so flawed and he still tries and I love him)
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite | you little shit
I added the little shit one cause I needed that option for Mordy
For the writers thing! 2, 11, 30, 31, 35, 53 & 54!
*Brick voice* All these? For me? Yeah!
Thank you, darling ^^
2. Favorite part of writing.
When things start falling together on their own, like sometimes you struggle with descriptions and plot point, but that moment when things unfold on their own, and loose ends start tying up, it’s just… the best
When the story takes a life of its own
11. Describe your writing process from scratch to finish.
Holy shit, dude, why ;_;? Such a long answer. Also, why do you assume there is a process?
Oh, jeeze, ok. I usually start with an idea: I usually get them while listening to music or walking or traveling. I write and plot in my head, let the ideas flow on their own to see where they lead. I usually picture stories as a series of scenes, so I try to sort them out.
I try to pinpoint some key phrases to start with or for key scenes. I make a mental list of the key points: some bits of dialogue, the topics of the dialogue, the action, the order of events.
Starting can take me forever depending on if it’s a new story or an old one. New stories are quick, but I can procrastinate forever for old stories, omg. When I start, I usually tone down what first appeared in my head: my imagination can be overdramatic, like holy shit. When writing the excess drama usually evaporates on its own.
If my idea is too long, I use bullet points to make a very basic outline (”they talk”. “X dies.”). I try to follow those with the bits of dialogue that have survived the drama-purge. Sometimes, the characters decide to do/say something else and I’m left in despair, cause it’s like herding cats: you were supposed to go the other way, for fuck’s sake.
I do my best with the writing, but don’t do much editing right away. Not until I’ve finished the chapter or if I get stuck. Often I just leave a comment for myself to “edit” or “expand” or “add X” that half the time IDK how to solve.
After editing, when I feel more or less confident, I put it through word for some extra spell check. If I have a beta, I send it to them, and if not I publish it - then spend hours re-reading it online and noticing 500 typos, punctuation errors and mistakes I missed and frantically editing and editing, while praying people don’t see but also praying people read the thing.
Then, well, I get glued to refreshing the stats for days and pray for comments.
I think that’s about it. Very professional, as you can see :’)
30. Favorite line you’ve ever written.
OMG, YASS! I was hoping I got this one eventually :D
I’m terrible at picking favorites, so my two faves from Caught on Fire are:
Roland looked expectantly for him to continue. “Getting what?” His expression turned a little dubious. “Do I… Do I want to know?”
Mordecai rolled his eyes. “I can’t tell if you’re being too straight or too Roland right now.”
and
“Since always!” Moxxi said, feigning shock. “The unrespectable business has always been done around the back, sugar, you know that.”
Brick slid an arm around Mordecai’s shoulders and pulled him close. “Not your back, though,” he said loudly.
And this one from Slipping:
You’d think piecing and stitching herself back together would become easier with practice, and in a way it has: she knows how to sew and she knows she will succeed; but getting broken gets more unnerving and the edges more jagged each time - more pieces get lost in the confusion.
Shepard wonders what she will look like at the end of her reconstruction, inside and out. Is she anything besides patchwork by now?
Kind of pretentious, but what can I say: I am kind of pretentious. Also:
Thane is a cold snap after the raging storm that is Jack and the handful that is Grunt. He throws Shepard off pace.
31. Hardest character to write.
I haven’t written a single line for her yet, but Tiny Tina is one I’m dreading to write. I don’t think I can capture her correctly T-T. Also, I haven’t written much of him, but Fenris is tough to get right.
Brick gives me trouble sometimes. As did Garrus at one point. And Daryl Dixon from TWD. Like, I love them all so much, but they’re also hard for me to really get on their shoes. They just think or move from a different start point than me: I’m a very sentimental person, and they… are not (well, Daryl is, but he’s also very traumatized)
Brick’s impulsiveness, him living outside himself all the time is so NOT me, so I have to really try to get out of myself to write him, and even then I’m not sure I’m getting right half the time.
35. Tell some backstory details about one of your characters in your story ________.
Oh, Jesus ;_; I’m gonna assume this is for Caught on Fire.
I’m glad you got me to talk about Brick and Mordy’s backgrounds the other day, cause it helped me flesh them out a lot.
Brick’s background has the less impact in the story, so here: when he was born, it was just him and his mom. His mom, who was a brawler like him, did her best, but she spent a lot of time away, so he had to learn to fend for himself since he was young.
He’s dyslexic, and between that and always being a really big kid, he was always treated like an idiot, albeit a dangerous one. He adapted to it. He learned to play that role.
He was pretty open about being gay, always. His family didn’t care and stood behind him. Most other people didn’t care either, but there was a no small amount of bigoted people in Menoetius that would have made his life a lot more difficult if he (and his mom) wasn’t scary af.
His mother got together with a man and his sister was born when he was twelve. Brick was jealous af, for the longest time. His step-father was a good man, though, and he got Brick to accept them eventually.
Brick and Amanda, they didn’t much like each other. He was a bit of a mean big brother, and she figured pretty early on that calling him “stupid” really hurt him. Brick didn’t pay her much attention until Amanda was old enough to go to school, and when she did it became clear she was as feisty as he was, if a lot smaller. He taught her how to fight better, and she started following him everywhere - and if you dared to insult him, she’d tear you down.
(When she told him he wasn’t stupid, had never been, he cried. A little.)
He gave up on school pretty early on (I’m thinking 15?). His mom made him stay for a bit longer. He started picking up the kinds of jobs that fit him: bounties, brawling, hired muscle.
That’s all I have for now :’)
53. What does writing mean to you?
Oh, my.
IDK. Writing is something I enjoy, truly and deeply. I struggle sometimes (*shakes fist at writer’s block*) and procrastinate, but when I get into it, I love it. I like telling stories out loud, but writing even more so: being able to both capture someone’s attention and show them a piece of my imagination (but in a very controlled way: they only see what I let them see), and have them enjoy it it’s just… it’s so satisfying.
I like talking in metaphors, cause if I do I can say things without actually saying them - and the people who get them, get them. I like showing what I am inside (and there is a lot in there), but not too much. And I like showing off something I spun out of thin air, the dots I connected to make a new figure.
And when writing I have enough time to put my thoughts in order - when I talk I can babble and digress and struggle for the right words often. But when I write I can be more eloquent, and be more of who I am when I’m alone.
I could continue, but that’s the gist of it :’)
54. Any writing advice you want to share?
Much like you said, I can only say: you do you. Write what you want to read, what you enjoy. If you love descriptions, do them; if you hate them, don’t. Take advice with a grain of salt, mull it over before taking it in.
Your work isn’t gonna please everybody, and that’s fine. If you like a very niche type of thing, then go for it. If you wanna jump genres all the time, go ahead. Try your best, but don’t be too hard on yourself. Find your own voice and style and balance.

HOLY SHIT THAT WAS A LOT!

handsomegoddamnjackass ha respondido a tu publicación: Wait, wait, wait, Anthony Burch said Maya is...
I LOVE THAT FACT SO MUCH!!! ;WWW;
I just gained 5 years to live because of this, every part of my demi self is crying happy tears ;__;
i cant really chose between Borderlands and Dragon Age, so you can choose what you do with this qvvq
Thank you, dear ^^ And why not both? Both is good!
Borderlands:
Favorite character: Mordecai, still
Second favorite character: a tie between Brick and Lilith
Least favorite character: Handsome Jack
The character I’m most like: I kinda wanna say Maya, but she’s probably too cool, and a leader which I’m not. Can’t think of anyone else, though, I’m an introvert and almost every character in the franchise is aggressively extroverted
Favorite pairing: Mordecai/Brick (Morick! I’m sticking with that tag!) (I’m so weak)
Least favorite pairing: Rhys/Jack (it kinda takes the fun out of going in the Borderlands tag in AO3, tho)
Favorite moment: So many, but roughly either Lilith punching Jack in the face at the end of the PS, or the mines of avarice quest in Tiny Tina’s DLC (and Brick punching everyone and everything) or Brick jumping in to save Mordy at the end of BL2
Rating out of 10: there is room for improvement, especially when it comes to a wider variety of characters that isn’t 90% white, but they’ve come so far (like they’re actually including more than 1 woman for every 3 men and have included LGB characters, no word on Trans characters yet tho). But it’s so much fun and has so much potential for re-playability. 9/10
Dragon Age:
Favorite character: Alistair Theirin (aka, the love of my life <3)
Second favorite character: ALL OF THE REST (except the egg)
Least favorite character: the egg
The character I’m most like: I hate to say it, but probably Merrill
Favorite pairing: I’m partial to Alistair/Mahariel, always, but between NPCs only, I adore Doribull and Merribela and Fenders
Least favorite pairing: Solavellan (I just don’t like the egg, ok?)
Favorite moment: sending Coripheus back to the Fade was pretty damn badass, I think
Rating out of 10: also a lot of room for improvement, but they’ve also come very far and I love these games so much. The books are pretty damn good too. 8.5/10?
