❝   𝗡𝗢𝗧,   𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘,   𝗣𝗛𝗬𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬,   𝗜   𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗦.   ❞   truthfully,   it   went   deeper   than   skin   and   embedded   itself     right   into   marrow.   something   felt   wrong   with   him;   dirty,   like   he   said.   maybe   it   had   to   do   with   the   unending   shitstorm   his   life   turned   into   when   he   intertwined   with   nancy   wheeler,   or   maybe   it   had   more   to   do   with   his   life   leading   up   to   that   point.   living   a   lie   isn’t   so   bad   as   long   as   you   stay   within   the   lie   but,   once   you   step   outside,   you’re   fucked.

steve   didn’t   know   how   to   talk   about   any   of   that.   honesty   begets   vulnerability,   something   he’d   been   told   time   and   time   again   to   avoid.   no   one   ever   mentioned   he   might   need   it   one   day,   if   only   to   do   some   spring   cleaning   within   his   psyche.
