One of the things a girl needs is a good quality pocket knife.
I got myself a tiny one for light travelling. I used to have one this small, it was the first Victorinox I had and it was a gift from my gran. I was about 10 back then, but sadly I lost it.
The big red one is over 10 years old, it has had the covers replaces already, but other than that, it's sharp and full-functioning. I can't imagine NOT having a pocket knife on me.
I'm still not over the fact that my friend's husband was so surprised when I took out the knife from my very elegant bag when she needed scissors. He's from England and apparently you are not allowed to carry a knife like that. Crazy.
I have never thought about a knife like this as a potential weapon. I have been carrying a Victorinox since I was a teenager and it was often handy when I needed to cut something, or maybe a screwdriver. My headteacher never said a word when I took it out to repair a loose handle in a class cupboard. I guess that's because I was a "responsible girl", but she didn't even mention that I should not have such thing at school.
