jacks: just say you have to go to the bathroom or to a doctor’s appointment
jacks: you’re such a good student that they wont even question you
jacks: you have it easy, lucky duck
so wrote jacks caine, who’s a thousand times more confident than nick is in this sort of thing. nick’s never missed a day of school in his life, not even the time when he had the flu and felt like absolute shit (because, well, miss one day in chemistry and you miss half the semester).
but jacks has something about him, this aura that draws nick to him again and again. it’s weird, the honor roll kid hanging around someone who chronically skips class, but nick likes that difference, whether he wants to admit it to himself or not. and making out with him once, twice doesn’t help.
with a shaky breath, nick raisese his hand, his palms clammy from the anxiety this is giving him. his civics teacher, who’s been rambling nonstop about the upcoming elections, raises his eyebrows. “ ---- yes, nick ? ”
for a moment, he doesn’t know what to say. god, nick, don’t freeze up now ------
“ uh ---- nothing, it’s just .... i’ve got this doctor’s appointment today, my mom’s supposed to pick me up ... ” he’s already shrinking back in his seat, waiting for his teacher to call him out on his lie ----
and, miraculously, a few moments later he’s making his way through a side exit into the bright fall sunshine, albeit with still-shaking hands. he squints at his phone.
[SMS: jacks]: i’m ??? out ?? ?
