I'm so happy at how they're handling everything with Alex, but I'm also still so mad at how they're trying to bury James and Kara, and act like everything between them in S1 never happened.
oh dude same. at one point during the gala scene i shouted at the tv REMEMBER WHEN YOU LOVED EACH OTHER
but they didn’t
they didn’t remember
it’s such a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaste
and like, at least now they’re giving james screen time but god at what cost
Oooh, Rose/Clara + 41
Major Character Death TW
Cancer TW
ANGST
Holding On and Letting Go
Death wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.
Rose Tyler’s family had never been the most religious, but when Grandpa Prentice had died, Jackie had been quick to assure her ten-year-old daughter that he was in Heaven, looking down on them and smiling.
Jackie Tyler, unsurprisingly, was wrong.
Or maybe she wasn’t, Rose didn’t know. There was probably something beyond being trapped on Earth, following her widowed wife.
For a long time, Rose had been sure her own death would be a relief to Clara. She had been sick for nearly a year, fighting a cancer that had…honestly never been beatable. But Clara had forced Rose to fight for as long as she could.
In the final days of it, Clara had looked just as tired and sick as Rose had felt. Rose had thought dying would be at least a bit of a relief to Clara.
But Clara had never been that selfish. She had been right at Rose’s side the moment Rose died – and that had been an odd experience. One minute everything had been dark (she had been unconscious for days) and then…she was standing next to her bed, listening to the heart monitor as screech out a flat note, indicating the absence of a heartbeat. She watched as Clara broke down crying, and the room flooded with doctors determined to keep her heart beating for another few minutes.
They hadn’t succeeded.
And Rose had been tied to Clara ever since. She’d followed her through the painful steps of calling Rose’s mother to let her know it was over, and then going home and crying herself to sleep. She’d watched Clara arrange her funeral, had actually watched her own funeral (and that wasn’t even the weirdest part of all this), and had watched Clara once again go home and cry until she fell asleep.
A month since the funeral, and Clara wasn’t doing much better. She’d taken two weeks off from work, and Rose was fairly certain she’d only gone back because a friend had come over to yell at her and inform her that Rose would not have wanted her to give up her entire life (which was the truth and Rose was glad someone said it). So Clara went back to work, distracting herself with her students and grading, and coming home every night to curl up on Rose’s side of the bed and cry until she fell into an uneasy sleep.
And there was nothing Rose could but watch.
Three months after the funeral, Rose was still there, still watching Clara. One night she sat down on the edge of the bed, trying to reach out and touch Clara – she couldn’t, of course. It was weird to see her fingers go right through Clara’s head. She pulled back quickly, wishing she could cry. She missed being able to hold Clara, to touch her, to play with her hair.
To whisper how much she loved her.
Eight months after the funeral, Clara met John Smith, a new teacher at her school. And for the first time since Rose had died, Clara smiled for real.
And all at once…Rose knew Clara was going to be okay. She’d hold John Smith at arm’s length for the better part of a year, and he would wait patiently for her to be ready. He’d stand by her, be a loyal friend, and when she was ready he would wait for her to make the first move.
Clara was going to be okay.
And finally, Rose allowed herself to be pulled away.
Send me a number and I’ll write a short fic!
cinnamon, mauve, blush
CINNAMON = You’re a really cool person and admire you from afar.
MAUVE = You are really talented
BLUSH = Seeing you on my dash makes my day a little better.
[ oohhh, babe, right back at you for all of this! <3 ]
Tell me what you think of me?
19, 26, 35
19. If you had one wish, what would it be? - Happy socialism everywhere.26. Best thing that has ever happened to you? - My daughter.35. Do you wish you could ever start over? - Yes and no. I like all the life experience I have, but there are do overs on certain things I’d like. So far the relative destination in life is pretty okay so I don’t want to take back the whole thing.
Rose and Clara exploring an abandoned castle
“I am going to kill you!”
Rose probably should have at least feigned feeling threatened, but she was laughing too hard to really be worried about it. She and Clara had decided to go on a tour of an abandoned castle, and of course had fallen behind their tour group to explore their own -- not necessarily against the rules, but it was encouraged they stay with their group.
They took that suggestion as they took most suggestions.
Last they’d heard from their tour guide, there had been ghost sightings all throughout the castle. Which of course meant there was only one thing for Rose to do.
Fall back a little bit, lure Clara into a false sense of security, and then grab her from behind and yell “BOO!”
Rose thought it was hilarious.
“I hate you,” Clara seethed, and Rose giggled, pulling her in for a kiss.
“You love me.”
“I am capable of both at the same time.”
Rose was still giggling as she hugged Clara, and they started down the hall again. Clara took her hand. “See? You can’t stay mad for long.”
“Oh I absolutely can. I just want to make sure you don’t wander off again.”
Rose harumphed, but didn’t complain otherwise. She got to hold Clara’s hand, after all. How could she complain?
The faint sound of footsteps reached Rose’s ears, and she whipped around. “Did you hear that?”
“Very funny, Rose. I’m not falling for it.”
Rose frowned, turning forward again. Until she heard the footsteps again. “Seriously, it sounds like someone’s walking behind us,” she insisted, turning back again.
“Seriously, Rose, I’m not...”
Clara’s voice drifted off as she looked back as well, and they watched a door creak open.
On its own.
They caught up with the tour group quickly after that.
hannahcole replied to your post: So I’m trying to do a fem!Ten aesthetic, which...
My fem!Ten is Hayley Atwell, but that’s me XD
She's another option, but I feel like that's the obvious choice? If I can't find anyone else I really like I'm going with Hayley, though

rose x orgasms = my main otp :')
I know.

As one of the unnamed people on this post, this makes a lot of sense and I totally respect it! It's very true about the Tentoo thing! I mean, I have written Ten x Rose smut, so I'm not like totally against it, obviously, but it really does change your perspective on JE whether or not you think the UST was resolved in s2 or not!
Hello, unnamed person! ;) Your conversation was very enlightening to me. I knew there were some people who didn’t think they were together before Doomsday, but I didn’t realise there were enough that this might actually be the headcanon that causes the split in accepting/not accepting Journey’s End.
Journey’s End from my perspective is the Doctor being reunited with his lover and then losing her again just like... four hours later. And the look on his face as he walks away makes it clear it’s a very painful moment for him, so... I just can’t let go of his pain enough to celebrate Rose and Tentoo’s happiness. You can argue that he set up that whole situation on the beach, and he very definitely did, but the fact is, once Tentoo was created, only one Doctor was going to get a happy ending.

You've basically just described my feelings exactly.
Now that I’ve pinned down the real source of the difference of opinion, it makes so much more sense. And I feel less like I have to explain myself, too.

I'm convinced Rose and Ten started shagging before Tooth & Claw, and I ship the crap out of Rose and Ten II, so I guess I'm another outlier XD I'm with tinyconfusion though, I'm definitely more Rose-centric, so maybe that's why.
Yup, you’re another I’d put in this category. And I think also people who multi-ship Rose tend to fall in that same group. If your main ship is really Rose x happiness (or Rose x orgasms, as Jenny says), then any ending that’s happy for her is happy to you.
The Doctor is the character I gravitate towards. He’s the one I love to write the most, he’s the person whose story is most fascinating to me. So the look on his face when he leaves BWB absolutely guts me.
