so i’m coming to this like 8 years late but you know what fucks me up about Pacific Rim? It’s not the forehead press or the drift compatibility or the gay scientists or the fact that they let idris elba look like that
no it’s chuck fucking hansen and his daddy issues and the fact that they Completely shafted him in the movie and the sequel like?? this is a kid mako’s age. he’s 21 by the end of the movie. He’s 21 and spent most of his teen years piloting in the war to end all wars and sharing his brain with his father that he doesn’t have a relationship with AT ALL. and after all that, he still wants to live to see the end of it. He quite likes his life.
and he STILL goes knowingly to his death on a suicide mission and his father has to listen to it, every second. you see a shot you take it.
just what the FUCK was that.
I am having a presentation in my class tomorrow about the use of colours in Pacific Rim and its because of the feels from your Chuck and Herc that I will give them the most emotional analysis ever even though to most of the class and the lecturer (actual Aussies) those two are a national shame to be hidden into the deepest darkest hole because apparently Aussies really don't sound like that at all and my lecturer skipped all the scenes with them cuz he and the class can't stand their accents XD
Mwahahahah!! Yes, the accents of doom.
Rob Kazinsky has spoken several times about how he pretty much speaks with an Australian accent all the time (being that he’s British and an Australian accent is basically that with some dialect specialties), but they kept wanting him and Max Martini to make it MORE Australian. *grin* He’s pretty sure he’s not welcome in Australia anymore because of it.
But I don’t care. I love them and will protect them with every last fiber of my being. *hugs them too tight* They are my precious children, and I don’t care if they’re the dregs of Crocodile Dundee and Steve Irwin on a drunken carouse, I hear them in my head every time I write them.
And use of color in Pacific Rim is an EXCELLENT topic! Guillermo del Toro never does anything without reason, and the color palette for this film was chosen with ultimate care. There’s a reason Raleigh is in warm tones on the Wall and Mako is in blues except for the rare occasion where the red enters the picture. Everything has a purpose and combines to tell the story without words, to hint visually at things your mind will grasp without quite knowing why. *nods*
I could go on forever and ever about del Toro’s genius and preciousness toward every little detail. He’s brilliant. I love him.
There are moments that the words don’t reach
There is suffering too terrible to name
You hold your child as tight as you can
I couldn't resist making this
basically me
Dyeing my hair and suddenly hit with Hansen feels because the color made me think of Chuck and Herc and just...nope...not going there.
Every fic in the Pacific Rim fandom needs an 'affection bomb Chuck Hansen' moment.
HE JUST NEEDS HUGS, OK?
...i just realized Herc Hansen was forced to choose between his wife and his son and in the end he lost them both.
