“Are you two dating or something?”
“N-N-NEVER!”
You were quick to shut Minsik’s question down, a dark blush appearing on your face out. You fiddled with your fingers nervously, sensing the now awkward tension the area that was caused by your sudden outburst in response of Minsik’s question, who was taken aback by your outburst.
Standing next to you was a dark-haired boy, three years your junior, slightly surprised by your outburst but also a little let down, trying his hardest not to show it.
The truth was both of you were crazy in love with one another, but neither had the courage to take it to that next step, all for one reason.
Your three-year age gap.
You were three years his senior. Meeting through Minsik, the two of you had worked in the same industry, entertainment and were similar in just about a lot of ways. He jumped started his rap career on the second season of High School Rapper. You jumped started your singing career an idol trainee on the first season of Produce 101, where you earned a dedicated fanbase, even after leaving your company, your fanbase had followed you to a new company where you made your debut as a soloist the following year.
While it wasn’t particularly your scene, you knew a handful of rappers and had collabed with them, Minsik being one of them. You had met Minsik for the first time when he came to your company, asking for you by name, which had surprised you.
You became good friends very quickly and he had introduced you to a few of his friends and labelmates. And that’s when your eyes met his dark ones for the first at an album release party.
Kim Haon.
Minsik made the decision to leave the two of you alone for you to get to know each other. It wasn’t hard to see that both of you were nervous out of your minds. You tried your hardest to make conversation and somehow it worked because the two of you exchanged numbers and became close friends, even closer than you and Minsik.
But one thing about your “friendship” with Haon. Every other sentence that had came out of your mouth or his was a pick up line to one another. This first thing he said to you was a cheesy pickup line that he probably learned from Jay or something.
And you can still recall that line like he had just told it to you for the first time.
“They say Disneyland is the happiest place on earth. Well apparently, no one has ever been standing next to you.”
That was around seven months ago and feelings had developed further into something more.
Love.
You both had felt the same thing and it was obvious to pretty much everyone, even Minsik. You even knew of his feelings and he knew of yours because he had already confessed. He already told you that he liked you and wanted you to be his but you hesitated and told him you would think about it, not giving him a clear yes or no just yet. Even if on the inside, you wanted nothing more than to say yes.
Though you were both technically legal adults, you didn’t know how it would come off to others as he turned 19 a little under a year ago. You were terrified of what others would say and what they would think and that was your biggest problem.
“What ( y/n ) was trying to say is that we’re close but we’re not that close, Hyung,” Haon spoke up, giving a small smile. Minsik noticed the hurt in the young man’s smile, his eyes and his tone of voice. All of it showing that he was hurt, and you sensed it to just by his voice alone, unable to look at him in the eyes.
Minsik rolled his eyes at the two of you, “Whatever, lovebirds. I’m gonna stop down the street and get us all something to eat. You guys want anything in particular?”
“Surprise me,” You both answered, making the much oldest in the room, let out a laugh. “You two twins now? That’s cute I guess. I’ll be back.”
Minsik walked out of the room, closing the door behind him, leaving the room to fill up with awkward tension and silence. The tension was thick enough to slice through.
You looked to him an apologetic expression, “Haon...I...”
“No...it’s fine...I get it.”
You let out a sigh, “Haon, I do...I really do like you and―”
“Then why won’t you give us a chance? We both really care for each other deeply and we feel the same way. Why don’t we give a shot and if it doesn’t work then we can call it quicks? Our, might as I add SMALL, age gap shouldn’t be the determining fact on whether we will work or not. I know you care about what others think, I do too. But I care about you more. I know I’m younger than you, but that shouldn’t matter. I’ll treat you better than anyone can...at least I’ll try to.”
You gave him a small smile, placing a peck on his forehead, “You’re so cute, Haon.”
“Does that mean you’ll give me a chance?” His eyes lit up with glee.
“Okay, okay, I’ll give you a chance. But...we have to keep this between the two of us for now.”
He wrapped his arms tightly around you, pulling you into the tightest hug you ever had, snuggling his head into your shoulder, “Fine by me, girlfriend.”
“We’ve been officially together not even for a minute but you’re already calling me girlfriend.”
He let out a light giggle, “What’s wrong with that? I like calling you that so get used to it.” There was a brief pause before he spoke again, “It would be really nice if you would call me―”
“Boyfriend?” You finished his sentence, his heart fluttering.
The door to the room opened, revealing Minsik, pretending to cry, “Do I get a cool pet name too?”
You both pulled away from one another quickly, “How much did you hear?”
“All of it.”
