---"Mama?"
"... Why are you fat? You weren't this fat yesterday."
Verse: New Guy
Three roommates, Emma Swan, her college roommate Regina 'Gina' Mills, and Emma's childhood bestie, Snow -- get a new roommate in quirky awkward Killian, a teacher fresh out of a break up and new to the big city. Chaos ensues when the four are thrown together in such tight quarters, including Killian's best friend, and male super model, Jefferson.

[ finally thankful ]
She hadn't slept -- there had the briefest of moments when she considered slipping into Hook's room for another... sharing of warmth. But not now - now was the time. 7am glittered on the clock above the stove and she was off. Her parents still abed she'd thrown open the blinds and drapes, and was busily preparing the meal she'd set out to make. Now Emma was never known to be an extraordinary cook, but with a few spare days she'd learned these recipes by heart thanks to the kindess of Granny who appreciated her enthusiasm. A family at Thanksgiving -- Nothign could take that away, the smell of coffee waifted upstairs as the form of the blond rushed around, pulling out ingredients, arranging them by recipe, finding pots and pans. Today -- was going to be a glorious day. Maybe she'd spend four hours explaining it to the pirate, maybe Henry would sulk because Regina hadn't wanted to come. Maybe Charming and Mary Margaret would share glances if she dared brush against the pirate. But somehow -- none of that mattered. Because finally? Emma had something to be thankful for. A gift beyond measure, priceless, even though not rare or perhaps perfect, but a family -- a family with love and warmth abound. That was what she was thankful for. Now to just not burn the turkey --'
There is a group -- a group of people who stand in the wreckage of former friendships and bonds. Who somehow fall through the cracks and are left alone, desolate and forgotten ashore the tiny island in the sea of 'better things'. It's a tragic and fitful existence, feeling like the misfit toys that the world forgot, and there's no magical savior coming to band us together and say 'we're special anyway'.
We're the ones who stayed, the ones who lost, the ones who got replaced. Friendship is disposable to those who seek glory and popularity, it's not a crime, we whisper, watching from our world of isolation as those around use praise the next big thing. But much like ourselves, they're in for a similar fate. For when one bases their happiness and comfort around the praise of the unfaithful and shifting of allegiance, it won't be long until they too, are old news.
I suppose there is a sort of victory and comfort in that. In a morose kind of way. And though the isolation is stifling we're never fully alone, for we at least dwell in the company of those also cast aside. So long as we tell ourselves that the blind majority does not matter, and their praise doesn't make us anymore valuable than it did when they left -- then perhaps getting back on our feet won't be so difficult.
Perhaps there's something better out there in that big blue sea.
Just waiting.
