“ remembering.... “ that was the opposite of amnesia - but there were things she couldn’t remember, there was so much she could remember about her time in the enchanted forest but there were bits and pieces missing. like someone very close to her was gone. “ i don’t hink that i’ve remembered everything.... i wonder if it is a progressional thing.... “ the sad glimmer in her eyes and the distant look on her features faded just as suddenly as they’d appeared. springing back into a smile that could light up the entire town, and perhaps it did. the magic flowing through her now was weak and would take some time to return but it was powerful in it’s own right. “ but i remember you, your tea was always so lovely, and you had tiny companions - did they come with you here as well ??? “

there were so many thoughts running through her mind, it was a miracle she could keep one conversation going for so long. such as why was her mother not here ??? why did she have those foggy spots in her memory ??? what would they all do now ??? was going home even an option ??? the professor was a smart man, perhaps he would have answers !!! after all bothering mr. gold while he was so busy with this mess was probably not the smartest idea. “ now that i think of it, your tea here still is the best. “

‘ are you lost, little one? ’ said the rat, with twilight settling in all around them; his concern was painted in a perfect light, cleverly hidden from the lazy eye of sunset, where the canvas began to crack around the corner. indeed the wizard rattigan was no dark one, but a crocodile was well-equipped to feast on the living; rats were guaranteed the passage of the dead, an insurance policy as they wandered through the woods, sick with the epidemic of life that burned his own yellow eyes to see so very happy…it stirred in his gut worse than hunger, and as she spun her own gold between her hands, shining like cornsilk, he knew, instantly, that there was something different about the girl…something new. ‘ you should come inside and attend to my hearth, ’ rattigan offered, gesturing to the door; the tree was gnarled, blackening at the roots with a pinkish haze glowing just beneath the bark, twisting up towards the heavens while its roots burrowed deep below the earth, sustained by magic in the face of such pestilence. ‘ unless, of course, you’d rather take your chances with the gods…the choice is yours, really. between you and me, though, i wouldn’t recommend it; even during the day these woods are regularly teeming with the queen’s own envoys…i would hardly suggest any alternative. ’

was it really that obvious ??? of course it was rapunzel dear, you have this clueless look on your face when you get lost - especially when night is drawing near. of course you don’t want to call upon your protector, he’s far to busy for you and you mustn’t bother him. cautiously she stepped forward bare feet carefully avoiding the thorn vines that slipped and snared at the ground beneath her. this was not a good place to be, the nagging in her gut told her this. that sixth sense of self preservation - though it was a weak one. she had not yet learned the full extent of what it meant to feel uneasy in a potentially deadly situation - but she knew this was perhaps not the friendliest of strangers. her hands combed through her braided hair, another step was taken, though she did not make it far before an uncomfortable tug pulled her back. her hair had snagged on snarling tree branch ( that day’s theme it would appear ). a soft whine left her lips as she stooped down to deal with it.

“ i don’t mean to be rude, but i don’t believe it’s wise to come inside of a stranger’s home at such a late hour. i really must be headed home. “ though his home did peak her interest, “ do you live inside this tree ??? do you not think that it may catch fire if you have a fire inside of it. “ brows furrowed as she paused from her tugging and untangling to glance back up at him quizzically. she had heard rumors of the queen and her guards but they had never bothered her much. she was just a girl minding her own business to them - quite a few times they had questioned her lack of foot wear. instantly regretting striking a conversation with her for she had four questions in return to ask them about their jobs.
