FF: Recommendation | Krisoo (ft. Luhan, Yixing, and some ChanHun)
The story: GQ Gangster by happinessplate Details: PG-13 | ~50k words; oneshot | boss!AU Author’s summary: Kyungsoo is Kris' fairy godmother. Although it says 'personal assistant' on his namecard. On the other hand, Lu Han is Xi Luhan, no matter what it says on his namecard.
Excerpt:
“Sometimes we do things we don’t want to, Kyungsoo, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good thing.”
Kyungsoo stops in his tracks. “Is it?” He isn’t sure if this conversation is dicier for him or Kris.
“Sometimes you do things you don’t want to because of another person.” Kyungsoo’s heart stops before it begins to beat furiously; he’s suddenly acutely aware of the fact that he’s alive. Kris turns around then, when he discovers Kyungsoo has been lagging behind. The bewildered expression on Kyungsoo’s face sends a grin blossoming on Kris’ face, as if this isn’t a painful thing to discuss at all.
“I have my own dream of course, it’s just that…” Kris trails off, like how dialogue suddenly dies when words become too difficult. But Kris is more than that, his chiselled features appear even sharper now when soaked in neon pink light from an overhead sign.
“…Sometimes another person’s happiness is more important than a dream.”
Personal notes: Maybe it's because I miss Kris' presence in the group, or maybe it's because I can't get enough of the author's writing after Reciprocorn. But more than the surprising pairings, what drew me most to this one is the author's remarkable ability to flesh out her characters, allowing her readers to relate with the leads of the story.
Tackling insecurities, caustic remarks, friendship, and memorable scenarios reminiscent of an Asian drama delivered without the cliche, this is a lengthy oneshot definitely worth reading.
