A Suzanne Says...Work and Other Duties

I think I was the only page working yesterday, but manged to have the library looking good and all the books put away by the end of shift. Other duty - ice cube watering the plant in the passport office.

A Suzanne Says....Busy Library Day

Before I even walked in the door, one of the library cats (aka the cats who hang outside the library and hope we feed them, and we do) declared me part of his property.  So I now am owned by a cat we call Boots.

Blind Date with a Book started.

Kelly put on another awesome teen program - fandom themed.  The teens were very excited/loud and seemed to have fun with all the pop culture trivia, giveaways and food.

Trusty Assistant Cody says that these cookies are the backbone of America and I agree.

A Suzanne Says...Be Thankful

In this season of giving and being thankful, remember your library.  We are not just the place with the books, CDs or DVDs to borrow and return.  We are also:

a computer lab for when you don’t have your own internet super highway at home

a place to get a passport

a meeting spot for school projects or a quiet place to study

a Veterans services resource for information about jobs, shared experiences and currently our library is collecting socks to give away to those with cold feet

a calendar of programs for every age group to be exposed to something new or just have fun - story time, reading to the dogs, summer reading club, teens, after hours

a building to get out of the elements or the scary world, and catch some ZZZZZZ’s

a room for local artists to display their work for all to enjoy

we are people who listen and smile even when you yell at us about fines, when you think we are rude for not giving you the answer that you want, etc.

we are lovers of learning, and are especially thrilled when kids are excited about the wonders libraries hold and continue that love throughout their lives (that’s how a lot of us decided to become librarians in the first place)

It’s all a part of what libraries and librarians do.  So you are welcome.

A Suzanne Says...One Week Down

The first week of summer reading club is done, and so far so good.

We have been weeding and shifting the collection, so I helped one of our super librarians relabel the aisles for the correct range of books in each.  She rearranged some books by an author with the last same of Sexton just so the aisle wouldn’t say “Fiction SEX-TOL.”  She did it for the kids!  HAHA

A Suzanne Says...Giving to the Community

Besides shelving books yesterday, I helped Candy pack up a book and a teddy bear into gift bags that the library then gives to the local food bank.  I guess when a family comes in for food, the volunteers give one of our bags to each of their children.  I didn’t know we did this, but I am proud that we do.
