you go to him first thing in the morning while he’s putting together breakfast.

you run, stumbling slightly, with a huge smile on your face

he hasn’t seen a smile that big from you since before the plague

he immediately smiles at seeing your large, genuine smile. he’s so happy to even see that

then the sounds fall out of your mouth, a little sloppy but it’s magical - no, better than magic - to him

“asra!”

the first time you say it you sound so confident and happy

the look on asra’s face makes you think you said it wrong but no -

asra’s face is just complete shock. just last night you couldn’t even say the letter i but now you’re saying his name?

and it’s your first word? his name is your first word?

he’s nearly crying

“asra?”

you look more worried this time, disappointed. you thought you got it wrong and had gotten your hopes up, asra could see that on your face

“yes! asra!” he’s smiling and laughing when he sees your smile falter, praying that he can bring it back, tears still at his eyes.

your smile comes back at the sight of his.

“asra!” you repeat, each time you say it, it sounds better and better. more natural. “asra! asra! asra!”

you’re jumping from excitement and asra is, too. he’s hugging you and you’re both smiling and jumping, both of you saying his name over and over again.

his hands are on your cheeks and your foreheads are pressed together as he speaks, “im so proud of you, mc,”

you struggle to try and repeat him, “hem see-u pr-r-r-“

asra laughs and shakes his head.

“it’s alright, just say my name.”

“asra,”
