This man is staring into your soul.
He is distant and unreachable, separated by a PDA screen and god knows how many kilometres. It's not unsettling: on the contrary — it might be the only thing keeping me alive right now. When I go down with the ship, someone will remember for sure.
Light fumbles with the wires on the bomb, exhausted out of his mind. All his fingers are covered with cuts.
"What do I do now?" He asks in a shaky hoarse voice.
"Almost done, now disconnect the detonator." Well I knew that already so I really have no idea why I asked. If I hear his voice, I am not dead yet?
"Fuck..." He whispers when wire cuts his fingers again.
"Light, be careful. Are you okay?"
"Okay?" Now I am definitely infuriated. "The bomb might explode in my hands but other than that yes, I am okay, L. You are so attentive."
'I know you are angry, but we have to keep calm. Your life depends on it."
"Calm?" He exclaims in rage. "Well it's not you who is here, so do you even give a fuck if I'm dead? Where are you, L? Where are you when I need you? Do as you see fit?" He mocks his words. "Seriously? That's how you help?!" He finally manages to match the three numbers on the screen and remove the device, covering the detonator with explosives.
The bitterness starts cracking through his voice. "You have no right to say that I don't care. I do. I do care..." He was supposed to say "about you", but couldn't make himself say it out loud.
"I bet you do," He disconnects the last wire and it's finally over. "Well, let's go get that fucker."
"Light, please, be careful," L tries to stay still and calm, but it's been almost fifteen hours and it's hardly possible at this point.
"I heard that already, got anything else to say?" He mocks as usual, not that he is in the mood for it.
"Well... I got a surprise for you." Mysteriously says L in a low voice.
"Oh, fuck. I hate surprises. Just blow up the ship already," Light says, but actually smiles in excitement. It's not the surprise part he hated, it's the "being caught off guard" part.
They both hold their breath as Light steps inside the engine room. It's not over yet, but the thought of you gives me the strength to fight.
