Here is a rather longish story about Tyron the homeless man in this photo who happens to live on the bridge that he is facing. Just 15 minutes before I met him and took this photo, Tyron had laughingly ran out into the middle of the almost deserted FDR highway to save my front bumper as it leap and bounced in seeming slow motion. I had been headed downtown to work, when the reckless driver of a blue sedan sideswiped and dislodged my bumper at 65 miles an hour and then disappeared off the next exit as I tried to remain on the road. While I was avoiding hitting the jersey barrier head on, I watched in the rear view mirror as several parts of my front end spun toward the uptown side of the highway only to be followed almost instantaneously by a rather well put together, cackling Knick’s fan. After eventually being able to pull off to the side of roadway, I was told by two very friendly New Yorkers that a homeless man had managed to drag my bumper from the middle of the highway. Lots of driving around with my blinkers on lead me to the very neatly attired and rather talkative Tyron who gladly helped to fit my bumper inside of my car. I was happy to give him $20 for his trouble. Tyron for his part said he had never seen anything like it in all the years that he has been panhandling at the 144th Street On Ramp. The police officer who I explained it all to just shook his head and said I should be happy to be alive. He then mentioned that it was unlikely that they would be able to track down the vehicle I could only describe as a ‘blue sedan headed south on Park Avenue somewhere below 135th Street’. - Sunday, May 6, 2018 @ 5:30 PM #HarlemTV #MNN #Interview #ArrivedLate #FDRHighway #CasualCollision #BumperBouncer #FenderFlinger (at FDR Drive)
