Let's Talk: Harrowing 2013

So we’ve all had a chance to taste what the harrowing brought us this year, and there is rather a lot so let’s get started.

First off is the change that has sparked the most debate; The re-release of old harrowing, and in future other holiday, skins. This move by RIOT had sparked one of two responses. Some people love it, others feel betrayed. I’m going to be addressing the later mostly, as I feel this was a good move on RIOT’s part. The biggest complaint I have noticed is that people feel betrayed that they payed money for what they believed was going to be a limited edition skin. The thing is, and I’m not convinced everyone is aware or this, people who had previously bought the skin are receiving a refund of their riot points. RIOT did not have to do this, but rather is acknowledging the complaint that people bought something under false pretences and has addressed it. Furthermore, the people who are upset that people will just think they bought the skin now obviously don’t read patch notes, to see that their is a recognition of people who originally owned the skin with the fancy emblem you get on the splash art. But moving on…

The next item on the agenda is Heimerdinger’s long awaited rework. Although I have had only a few chances to test it out myself, I have a few things to say about it. First off I have to say that I am actually rather impressed. RIOT managed to keep parts of Heimerdinger that we’re fun to play and tweaked them to be viable, if a bit strong at the moment. Insane lane control with turrets? Check. Amazing single target burst? Check. Aoe stun that can be boosted to be the equivalent of a sona ult? Check check and check. All and all Heimerdinger has been brought back into the realm of the viable, though he still suffers from some set up time and long cool downs, so we will have to wait to see if he can break into the realm of pro play.

I have to admit that I play neither Zyra not Vi, so I really have no opinion on either skin. They look alright I guess.

Personally I’ve had a blast with the mystery gifting so far. I’ve managed to get myself a firefighter Tristana, while a friend of mine snagged a Brolaff. For those unaware, during the harrowing you can send one of your friends a mystery skin for the price of 490 RP. This skin is guaranteed to be of at least 520 value, and can include legendary, some legacy, and even ultimate skins. If you have some friends willing to toss around some mystery gifts it can be some good fun to see what skins come up.

To finish off I must say I’m a little disappointed that summoner’s rift did not have a cosmetic update this year. I assume the reason for this is the coding changes that have happened the past year (jungle changes, the revamped towers, among other things) though I won’t say much on the topic as I only assume that is the reason for no cosmetic change.

All in all the harrowing has some beat stuff to it, so catch it while it lasts!

Soooo mad at League right now. I bought officer Vi and apperently she doesn't con't for the icon. I have used halloween wards and played 3v3 like, 100 times and still no icons. What the fuck Riot. I get it can take up to 3 days, but all my friends already have theirs, so where mine?
