Fan Art Friday - Tractor Tom

This week's #FanArtFriday features Tractor Tom from the CITV's series of the same name, and he is celebrating the inventor of the modern tractor, Harry Ferguson, on what would've been his 138th birthday today.

Lilian Bland (1878-1971) from Carmoney, near Belfast was the first woman in the British Isles to make a solo flight in an airplane and was the first woman in the world to build & fly her own plane.

Lilian was born in Kent but after the death of her mother Lilian’s father moved the family to County Antrim in Ulster to live with an Aunt. In August 1910 Lilian became the first woman to build & fly her own aeroplane (the Mayfly) and the first woman in Britain or Ireland to fly a plane solo. She achieved this nine months after fellow Ulster citizen Harry Ferguson became Ireland’s first man to fly and first man to build his own powered aeroplane.
