Since my love for John of Lancaster is literally endless and my wip pile is none of my concern-

I'm trying to see if I can do a one play cut of 1&2H4 that has a focus on the four young men of the plays (Hal, Hotspur, John, and Poins) as an ensemble.

I've cut some of the best parts, I still have to cut like, 500 more lines to make it a reasonable length, and the line distribution between the four of them is a mess rn-

But the plot is still clear, the pacing is fine, and they each have an ark (idk what's going on with Poins) - so it's starting to come together!

hello! i know you've posted about this somewhat in the past (i spend the normal amount of time going through tags related to 1h4 don't worry about it) but do you have any resources on productions that give hotspur a stutter in 1h4? cause im trying to find stuff about it but jstor and general google search is being so unkind to me

I don’t have an exact citation for it at the moment since it’s 10 pm and I’m about to go to bed but the origin is a popular German translation that has Kate in Part 2 say that Hotspur spoke with a ,,Stottern” or stutter, as a translation of “speaking thick.” I’ll look for the particular translation tomorrow if you want it.

As for performances, the only one that comes to mind is the BBC’s Age of Kings series with Sean Connery as Hotspur. I haven’t seen any other productions that use the stutter, maybe my followers have?
