Joe was the winner of the 2009 x-factor. He performed on the first result live show on the boys' season, in October 2010. This quote was in the intro when he did. While on the show he got to perform with one of his legends, George Michael.

A few months earlier, in July, his twitter was hacked and he was outed "as a joke". He then decided to use that 'opportunity' to come out as gay.

Joe got dropped from SYC0 in April 2011. Saying he was unhappy and had be the one to suggest it. But then there is an article where he says "I'll prove Cowell was wrong to dump me"

He is going on tour in 2022, that honors George Michael

That also got me thinking, was this was some sort of favor to boost interest? Or if he had a more personal connection than just liking the lyrics. Obviously he could just have heard it for the first time that day since it was being 'released'. Then there are such things as coincidences. But it still sent me on a little chase.

Interesting...

For those that don't know Harry and Louis are the only 1D boys credited on 'perfect' and it is considered a pretty 'larry' song, it is their song.

Maybe this is all common knowledge, I am fairly new here (fandom). I had at least never seen anything further than the connection to the lyrics.

"Lose the face now" - Freedom, George Michael

Made this thread yesterday on twitter before seeing the new Love On Tour logo. So when it showed up, no face in sight, I lost my breath for a minute. Wanted to share here as well.

About the music video from the song: "By the end of the Faith tour I was so miserable because I absolutely knew that I was gay... I didn't suddenly want to come out. I wanted to do it with some kind of dignity. So I thought 'okay, you have to start deconstructing this whole image." (Faith tour: 1988-89) (George didn't come out until 1998, 8 years after the song was written, and even then it was not on his terms.)

Michael refused to appear in the music video for the song and cast a group of supermodels to appear instead. In fact he didn't want to be in any videos for the album, and only do limited interviews.

His dispute with sony over his image and promotion.

Michael argued that his recording contract constituted an unreasonable restraint of trade and alleged that the defendant had failed to promote his album with due vigour as punishment when he opted to downplay his pop star sex-symbol status. Famously, he described his situation as "professional slavery" The just like you music video references this.

The lyrics

The lyrics to freedom are very telling, and it probably isn't a surprise that another former boybander (Robbie w) has covered it. It addresses struggles with identity, artistic growth and being young and famous. The song also became a queer anthem.
