AND therefore it's not fair to say that the album is "shallow" or "has a problem with words" AND IT'S ESPECIALLY not valid to say that the album has "much worse songwriting than harry's house" when in reality the songwriting style is SO SIMILAR

my Ready, steady, go! interpretation

idk if this is the intended meaning from harry’s side but it’s how i interpret it based on:

- our knowledge of how jealous and possessive harry can be re louis (see all the many compilations)

- how stubborn he is (“we’re both stubborn i know” sweet creature)

- how h&l’s arguments look sometimes based on Written All Over Your Face

- and how harry talked about the ups and downs in relationships in coming up roses (“Just say the word and we'll take up the test where we Flirt with the bad ones and skip all the rest”) + the zane lowe interview

One could see Ready Steady Go! as harry’s perspective and mental spiraling during an argument with L

“One time is alright

Two times is one too many”

The start of the argument. Harry is stewing in stubborn frustration bc louis (knowingly or unknowingly) did something that pissed harry off.

“One, two, three times you're on me

And suddenly

Ready, steady, go!”

Louis confronts him like “what’s did i do what’s your problem?!” Refer to WYOF “You're giving me that silent treatment Don't know what it's achieving”

“You touched me goodnight

Butterflied both our bellies”

Louis is kind anyways, tells him goodnight, and wants to not go to bed angry but harry is still pressed and expects louis to know what he did wrong 😤🤭

“You and me are skipping sleep

With dirty feet”

Resulting in both of them not sleeping. dirty feet could be a metaphor for tiptoeing around each other or for acting or moving in ways that are wrong.

QUE the harry styles mental spiraling!

While we do too much”

Harry’s insecurity in relationships. Like the stupid shit you say in the heat of an argument “if you hate me so much, if you’ve got enough, why don’t you go call Leon, Louis!” The test of flirting with the bad ones that harry talks about in Coming Up Roses. While we do too much could be like “it shouldn’t be this complicated to be in a relationship so why is it?! is it cuz we’re not meant to be?!”

H realizing that oh maybe i’m just projecting my insecurities that you could dump me for Leon. it’s all in my head. (Side note: idk if leon is a real name or not. it reminds me a bit of the typical male heartthrob names in the romance novels. ala Lorenzo or smth. so could be a real name or could be a made up name for this hot exotic alternative person harry could be replaced with)

Maybe you don’t have time for me. Again parallel to Coming Up Roses “am i back seating your life judging while you drive”.

the contrast between the first verse and this is like “ oh actually maybe you weren’t actually trying to piss me off for real maybe you were just pushing my buttons like the lovely little shit you are”. again, harry taking about Coming Up Roses on Zane Lowe; how in relationships your partner challenges you bc they know your goals and want you to achieve them. so even if it feels like confrontation they’re doing it for your own good.

Like harry is realizing that he maybe blew things out of proportion…whoops 😅

and then the rest of the song is him being confused about which one is the right way to feel. his mind is spiraling, ready steady go, can’t stop the spiraling. the instrumental gets more chaotic, the tempo speeds up all the way to the end of the song.

I don’t entirely follow your ask, I am not sure soulmate fits or any of those songs are necessarily about the same person. But I’ll pull cards on the muse for each song for entertainment purposes, no facts.

Who or what is She about?

Six of Swords, Four of Cups (reversed), The High Priestess (reversed)

She is about a woman who lives entirely in the narrator’s imagination, an ideal, a fantasy, or an emotional truth that only surfaces when he drifts far from the real world (Six of Swords). I love that this card came out, it literally shows a boat and Harry has said this song was written on mushrooms. The cards match that vibe exactly. They capture the sense of emotional detachment turning into sudden longing or clarity psychedelics can have (Four of Cups reversed). She isn’t someone he knows fully. She maybe isn’t real at all, she’s a subconscious projection, a symbol of something he craves but can’t name or hold onto (The High Priestess reversed). Like the song she is a dream: vivid, surreal, and just out of reach.

Who or what is Little Freak about?

King of Swords (reversed), The Hierophant, Eight of Cups, Six of Cups

Little Freak is about a past emotional connection that maybe was immature. The narrator struggled to express himself at the time (King of Swords reversed), possibly due to external expectations or emotional restraint (The Hierophant). One of them walked away, not because there was no feeling, but because it couldn’t become what it was meant to be (Eight of Cups). Despite that, he still thinks of her with nostalgia and tenderness she’s frozen in time for him, not a current affection (Six of Cups).

Who or what is Matilda about?

The Magician, The Tower, Four of Swords, King of Swords (reversed)

Matilda is about someone who had to be entirely self-reliant, building their life and sense of worth from nothing (The Magician). She went through something emotionally devastating, likely connected to family or her past—that changed her completely (The Tower). Now, she keeps to herself, emotionally withdrawn and quietly surviving (Four of Swords). The narrator sees her clearly and wants to reach her, but struggles to communicate the depth of his empathy (King of Swords reversed). It’s not a love song, it’s a song of recognition, validation, and quiet grief on her behalf.

‪harry didnt "forget" to tweet. regardless of how u feel this move was intentional. if harry had forgotten or was unable to get on twitter his team would have tweeted for him if they thought that he needed to.

we get shit for putting emphasis on things like likes and tweets but the reality is every little move harry makes is noticed, documented, and analyzed by the entire fandom and he and his team know this. entire uas with hundreds of thousands of followers are dedicated to informing the fandom when he so much as likes a post on instagram.

so yeah the fact that he didn't acknowledge the 1D anniversary when the other boys did was a statement. especially when he made a huge deal of acknowledging the two year anniversery of his debut album not only with a tweet, but also spending a couple million on the little 🌸 next to all the relating hashtags.

Tbh this was a bold move by him and his team that definitely shows he's distancing himself and his career from 1D.

does this mean he hates 1D and the fandom? absolutely not. harry has always been very vocal about how much he loved being in the band, how grateful he is to have been a part of it, and how much he loves and appreciates all his fans. if that's your interpretation of harry not tweeting than you don't know him at all.

IMO this means that we're probably looking at an eventual 1D reunion that doesn't involve harry. :/ His solo image has been very focused on distancing himself from 1D up to this point and the fact that he didn't acknowledge the anniversary when he has every year since hiatus says theyre taking it a step further.

I don't much like the idea of 1D without Harry but tbh I love Harry's solo career and 1D was about much more than just Harry. And if Zayn comes back with the boys then I think we can come to accept it.

i’m completely obsessed with golden today

the lyrics are so vivid and give the perfect transition from hs1 to fl. this started as a interpretation of golden but kinda turned into my thoughts on harry’s entire discography oops

the opening lines are some of my favorite from the entire album and i absolutely love the way he sings them. “golden. as i open my eyes. holding focus.” he sees this golden person as he wakes up and he focuses his eyes on them and holds it. but this person’s not in his life anymore. he says “you were too bright for me.” but he was dark and he was “broken” so this person “waits for him in the sky.” after the longing and suffering in hs1, he’s finally accepted the fact that this person is gone. but the beautiful part of it is that he knows they’re still waiting for him.

in meet me in the hallway, he talked about how desperately he wanted this person but they left him hanging. he was begging this person for a chance and was waiting for it. “just let me know, i’ll be at the door” and he’s hoping this person will “come around.”  again he was the broken one in the relationship singing “i gotta get better” over and over. if only he could get better, maybe they could “work it out.”

he moves on and meets other people and has fun but no one could ever live up to this person. he talks about them in carolina, woman and only angel (don’t get me started on the inconsistent use of “you” and “she” in only angel.) but again, none of these people live up to this golden person. he says so in my favorite lyrics on hs1 which he didn’t even sing on tour. i’m not bitter “we don’t talk about it. it’s something we don’t do. cuz once you go without it, nothing else will do.” he sings this so soft and you can tell how heartbroken he is hits a bit close to home for me. he tells us this before talking about all these other people, at the end of the first track. but in the end, he still loves and misses this person. he brings it back with from the dining table, the final track of the album. here, it’s official. this person never called. he continues to hope that they will one day but they “never do” and he end the album feeling hopeless

back to golden. golden starts the album having accepted that this person is gone but now he understands why. now, he has hope. he says this person is waiting for him. And he says he doesn’t want to be alone. so, he moves on and sees other people. “like her, feel her, take her home.” notice the switch from “you” (the golden person) to “her” the person he moves on with. and he goes through the journey that is the A and B sides of fine line. he says he was starting to become someone he doesn’t want to be. i think he brings it back with side C reminiscing about this golden person. he’s been trying not to think about this person in sunflower vol 6. and he’s thinking on how long he’s been gone from this person in canyon moon. he’s ready to go home. home, the place he said he couldn’t go in to be so lonely. he’s going home and it’s the happiest he’s sounded in the entire album. he sounds relieved almost because he’s finally going home to this person who was waiting for him in the sky

the album closes with fine line. the song that meant so much to him that he gave it it’s own side on the vinyl, made it last and named the album after it. this person still has his “devotion” and he wants to work it out. again there’s inconsistency with you/we and she. he talks about how they are a fine line. between what? i’m not sure. maybe about being happy, maybe about their love working out. maybe fine line between love and hate. i’m not sure but he transitions to “we’ll be alright.”  in the end, he knows that they will be alright which is such a beautiful way to end the album

So these are the 10 songs he chose as his "ultimate mixtape" in Another Man. I wanted to start with these songs so they were the first songs I put on the playlist.

I think they mean a lot to Harry, and weren't chosen at random. It was clear, to me at least, he was very open for this magazine. I think they gave him a lot of control over the way he wanted to portray himself and he was more than willing to open up in return. for example:

The photoshoot was very extensive and revealing for one. I don't need to to into that because we've all seen the fucking indescribable art that came out of it.

He wore some of his own clothes and there were shots from his home town.

He let them photograph his personal items, including his song-writing journal.

So going of that, I decided these songs were really important to Harry. I think he put a lot of thought into the message he wanted to convey to us. He doesnt give us much and he knows how desperate we are for him. So when he does pick 10 songs out of the millions he knows for this interview in particular, I don't think it's very tinhat to think there is meaning to them.

Obviously, as is anything with Harry, the meaning is up for interpretation. I really don't think he would mind me trying to analyze this a bit or else I wouldn't. But he's an artist and art is open for interpretation, as he's always said 🤷🏼‍♀️

So I've been a fan of Harry since literally day one so I kind of picked up on some stuff that I noticed while listening to the songs over and over again for the past week that correlates with things Harry has expressed before in his music, his body art and his personality.

I'm gonna do a different post for each song. Fair warning, I believe Larry is real so I can't ignore that while I'm looking at the songs. But I'm gonna use this lil guy 🌻 when I mention Louis so if you aren't a Larrie just replace that with whoever you believe Harry loves/ has loved because there's definitely underlying themes of love and heartbreak whether or not Louis is involved.
