Im just imagining the budget pitch for death in paradise, like
"Yes, carribean island, mhm, shipping british actors over to be the side characters, sure, limited cast, nice, wait why do you need a CGI budget?"

where tf was harry in this ep though??? like all the references and cameos of past characters and yet they can’t even put in one of the three characters who’ve been in the show since ep1???
OMG I just figured it out.
On Death in Paradise, the reason the detectives always catch their man is because of Harry! Hear me out.
Harry is a faerie creature
He’s unusually intelligent.
He’s not afraid of humans.
He still looks exactly the same after more than 13 years (he was already an adult when we first encountered him in series 1) google says geckos generally live 10-15yrs in the wild.
He is of a species that does not seem to exist in the Caribbean (at least not on Guadalupe, the island the show is filmed on) if at all.
He appears to be slightly unreal or uncanny (yes I know he’s CGI this post is meant to be funny)
The detectives (mostly) feed him for no reason other than kindness. They don’t expect favours in return, like people sometimes do when leaving food for the fae. They care for his health and well being, and consider him a friend.
This is also why Neville was framed for murder. He was cruel to Harry and trapped him and tried to evict him from his own home (it’s Harry’s shack IMO and the detectives are all lodgers). He later reconsiders and brings Harry home, which is why he’s still able to catch the murderers, but he was still punished for his actions.

Sergeant Pole - The boss of the squad and has been there the longest, He likes to complain that it’s hot a lot of the time but refuses to adapt his lifestyle to accommodate the heat.
Arch Trooper Goodman - The sweet autistic one whose notes are all over the place. He has a pet duck named Selwyn and considered buying a ship, Pole said no. But Fox has a soft spot for Goodman so he brought him a proper sailboat on Alderaan for him. He’s also a bisexual disaster that somehow ended up dating the serious Mace Windu [He does love Goodman and Goodman is the only person he truly tolerates.]
Shock trooper Mooney - The one who came out Irish he adopts all the kids who have been abandoned in the cases he works. He’s gay and has a crush on the Padmé’s head of security [I’m still working on him but his name is Karl]
Shiny Parker - He’s the newest and has loads of medical conditions, so many that he needs a support animal, A lizard named Harry!! He’s also Poles favourite.
Their CO is Fox, his favourite is Goodman despite his choice in men.
