New Harsh Lights Song Out Now!
As you may know, Eva and I have been hard at work on the first full-length as the pop-punk duo Harsh Lights. On Friday, we released the third single from the album! It is called “Masochists” and it has a bit of a different flavor from anything we’ve released in the past. Behold, the synths! Listen at the link below.

Hope you enjoy and stay tuned for more news about the full album release, coming soon!
Harsh Lights Sophomore EP Out Everywhere Now!
Different Demons by Harsh Lights
Hi all! I am back so soon to let you know that Harsh Lights, my other musical endeavor with the talented Erwin Dreissen, has been hard at work! On November 15 of this year, we released our second EP titled Different Demons. I’m super proud of it and it stretched my singing and songwriting to new and exciting places. I urge you to check it out and I really hope you enjoy it! It has been a blast working with Erwin and I think our output is getting better as we get more comfortable working together. Have a listen!
Harsh Lights Debut EP Overthinking Available Now!
Overthinking EP by Harsh Lights
Surprise! So you may remember me mentioning about a year ago that I was collaborating with Dutch musician and producer Erwin Driessen on a new project/band/what-have-you called Harsh Lights. Well, we've been plugging away at tunes ever since and today we shared five songs as an EP called Overthinking. This is our first widely-released music and we are really excited for everyone to hear it!
As I explained last year, Erwin and I met on an online music forum when he posted some super awesome instrumental demos. I ended up singing on one of them and this project was born. For this EP, Erwin wrote and performed all of the music and did all of the production. I wrote and recorded all of the lyrics and melodies.
If you're familiar with my music as Patterns in Traffic (and if you're not, why are you here?) I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the difference in genre that you will hear on this EP. It was a great songwriting exercise to write in this pop punk style and to have input from another musician during the creative process. The result is something that I never would have come up with on my own, but something that I'm really proud of.
If you've ever been interested in bands like Blink-182, Green Day, MxPx, and the like, or if you just want to hear my pretty voice on something new and different, or if you just want to hear what the heck I've been up to for the past few months, I urge you to check out the EP! Just search for Overthinking by Harsh Lights on your preferred streaming service and smash that play button! [Edit: Or just listen above as we've now added the EP to Bandcamp!] I'd love to hear what you think and I hope this is a cool complement to my solo work as PiT. The plan is for more music to come from both Harsh Lights and PiT in the future.
All the love!
Thank you, past me, for reminding current me that this song exists. Nate Ruess is such a massively underrated artist. He never fails to produce songs that rock me right to the core. You don't realize how much you need these songs when you first find them... But gods do you need them sometimes
So tonight I'm going out, tonight I'm gonna stay out In walks eighty long boots, looking for a date I would make the first move, but I'm too drunk to enunciate Never been one to want to hear about someone's day
