He's so cute
Hirano to Kagiura (Manga) | 671 words
Summary:
One moment before Kagiura slips into his sneakers and leaves, he waves a quick goodbye, grin glowing on his face, and Hirano feels like he's been struck by lightning.
was discussing hrkg with @booksandberries when they noted a translation error in the mdex scans, and I thought it'd be prudent to point it out here. for reference, this is ch 7 of hirano to kagiura.
here, if we look at kagiura going "huh?" he's pretty clearly talking to the black haired guy, not his at-the-time girlfriend. this is because that black-haired guy is the one suggesting the lap pillow, not the girl. so the speaker is just totally gotten wrong here. in the official translation, this line goes, "you guys are dating, right? why don't you put her head in your lap!?"
and that's it. despite the visual cues to indicate the speaker, somehow I'd missed it this whole time, so I wanted to clarify it for anyone else who might have missed it, too.
ch 48 of sasaki to miyano is so good in so many ways, mostly because I want to learn everything there is about ugawa, but my favorite scene is probably sasaki and ugawa on the way home. the conversation they have is great on its own, but I love thinking about the stuff happening in the background.
first we see them enter the train, and ugawa takes a seat. probably tired, after walking around that event! and he leaves room for sasaki to sit next to him as well.
next, a girl with a clearly heavy bag enters the train, and ugawa, while continuing the conversation, seamlessly gets up and leaves an open seat for her.
and then sasaki offers to take his bags and hold them, because he’s still sitting. all that, in the middle of a conversation they’re having with each other, without drawing any verbal attention to it.
what’s all this for? well, it adds a lovely touch of visual interest to the scene instead of having them stay still, sure, but I think it’s because it reveals a great deal about sasaki and ugawa.
we first “see” ugawa in ch 44, where he’s calling sasaki to try and get him to join a group date. that guy just won’t give up! …not really the most positive impression, huh? but when we get a proper introduction in ch 46, he declines a dinner invitation on behalf of sasaki, ‘cause he’s got a girlfriend, and it seems like as soon as sasaki declined the group date and told him he had a partner, ugawa dropped it. the calls sasaki’s been declining are just… normal invitations to hang out, lol.
and then we learn that he’s been telling everyone to use katakana for his first name instead of kanji, because he didn’t like the nicknames that people gave him. this is such a hanzawa-core type lie to me, the kind that’s done not really for the purpose of secrecy, but because it’s the easier way to have things go. it tells us that he’s someone who’s thoughtful in his own right, and he’s got the social eq to think about small things like that.
now, in ch 48, he’s already been pretty helpful with the whole event, but here we see just how thoughtful he is. it’s a lovely and silent consideration that sells us on the fact that ugawa, who’s bright and friendly and seems pretty open, isn’t a shallow or careless person… and that sasaki knows this. because when sasaki offers to take his bags, it means that he’s paid attention to what’s happened—and of course he would, because sasaki is thoughtful and considerate in a detailed way, too—and he’s acknowledged it about ugawa.
this moment feeds into so much of what ch 48 is doing, which is showing us sasaki and ugawa getting closer, so it’s really not a surprise that right after this, in ch 49, is when sasaki breaks out into a smile because of ugawa. he’s charmed!
my takeaway from ch 45 of sasaki to miyano
kiri's wip wednesday: "kagihira touch exploration"
can you believe...? that it's actually wednesday for me? and that I've brought this back? um first off. this wip is like over a year old. I have posted bits of it before. I am probably... not going to make this into a full fic. that's why its got such a blunt title. also because I title boring like that.
...right, so I thought I'd post it! for the people. for kagihira, who I love with all my heart. it's about 1.2k so I'm putting it under the cut
harusono-sensei's art is always so beautiful....
