It's a Wonderful Life Ch. 1: New in Town

Rus doesn't know the first thing about farming, but he knows if he spends one more second at his soul-sucking corporate job in the city he will probably kill someone and then himself.

He's willing to try anything once.

Notes:

Heavily inspired by all the farming Sim games (Harvest Moon ofc, also Story of Seasons, Stardew Valley, Coral Island)

This follows some of the familiar paths you've seen in such games and will end up being a harem of Papyri for our main character Rus lol. As the story progresses I might take player suggestion what Rus does next or who he romances the most, I think it would be really fun to see everyone's ideas so feel free to tell me in the comments everything you wanna see and I might use it!!

Characters we meet and their roles will be in the end notes of each chapter. I can also make notes about likes/dislikes and stuff if you guys want.

Heavily based also on my own HarvestTale, which has always been an undertale/farming sim crossover idea. Visit the Tumblr for it! @harvesttale

Only difference is I've taken Stretch and made him the MC instead of his usual role in town. Some other things have been tweaked a little and I added Wine and Coffee.

I was checking out the gift post reactions for Sans and Papyrus. Why does Papyrus dislike dewdrop flowers?

He's terribly allergic, unfortunately, and the things are already everywhere outside and in every bouquet or perfume.

It's a hassle to keep them out of the restaurant even without you bringing them in and giving them to him directly!

Ah, Farmtale. Also known as Harvesttale by some. I have played more Harvest Moon than anybody else I know… I am qualified for this ask!

Frans

- Frisk is the new rancher and Sans is her next door neighbor and friendly rival. He shows her all the ropes, what things do on the farm and where everything is, and even introduces her to people. He goes through life at his own pace, but he’s helpful.

- Sans and Frisk get along swimmingly - Frisk may be one of the only two humans in town, but this Sans doesn’t hold anything against humans personally. He judges each one individually by their own actions instead of lumping them all together. Even so, he feels like Frisk is special.

- The two are supposed to be ‘rivals’, but Sans never was one for competitiveness in the first place. He comes over all the time to offer his help when she’s working. She often wonders and asks him why he isn’t doing his own work instead. Oddly enough, Frisk never actually sees Sans work, but all his chores are always done whenever she checks in with him.

- His realization that he’s in love with Frisk isn’t a huge shocker to him or anyone else except maybe Frisk herself. She’s a good honest person that honestly cares about the people of the town, so why wouldn’t he develop feelings for her?

- He decides to start making steps to court her before some other guy, like Gaster, does first.

Papara

- Chara is the second rancher and sister of Frisk. They live on the same property, but she doesn’t do all that much farm work. She isn’t a freeloader, though; Chara provides income as well, just through alternative means such as fishing, mining, or foraging.

- She’s also the one that takes all of Frisk’s produce into town to sell, since she can be quite the merchant. This is where she meets Papyrus, the town’s chef.

- Papyrus is shopping to restock his restaurant, co-owned with Grillby and Muffet, and he takes a liking to Chara and her attitude. He becomes attracted to her charisma, and soon he’s visiting her stall for other reasons than buying groceries.

- He endears himself to Chara and her sister by preparing hot meals for them, for all their hard work, he says. Soon he’s inviting her over for dinner at his house, and it’s no surprise to anyone at all when they begin dating.

- Paps doesn’t want to pressure her into it, but he’s had the Blue Feather (basically the Harvest Moon equivalent of an engagement ring) since shortly after they began dating. He tries to propose to Chara, several times in fact, but all his attempts at proposing get interrupted in contrived, coincidental, and often comical ways.

What do the HarvestTale boys say/react when you propose to them?

I'll do this post assuming they are ready for proposal, and a separate one for if they aren't! Here's what the boys say at ❤❤❤❤❤ when you present them with the Soul Pendant:

Sans

"aw, shucks...for real? m'not dreamin'? yeah...a farm for two sounds pretty nice, so long as it's with you."

There is a small cutscene of Sans putting the pendant on and you kiss, only he blocks the camera with his big straw hat.

Papyrus

"WOWIE...YOU REALLY, TRULY LOVE ME LIKE I DO YOU? THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! YES!"

The cutscene shows Papyrus donning the necklace, and you lean over the counter to give him a kiss. The "camera" takes a Polaroid. The Polaroid joins his wall of regulars with a heart-shaped pin, though it is a mystery who took the picture.

Red

"yer sure you wanna big lug like me, sweetheart? maybe someone with less, uh...family matters?...no? you want me. that's good, cause watchin' ya marry someone else mighta damn near killed me."

Red puts the necklace on and pulls you in for a kiss. His cell phone rings in his shirt pocket, and he throws it in a pond, kissing you again.

Boss

"I'm...speechless. To know that you return my affections, even in my condition, it truly makes me so happy. I treasure it, and you. You won't regret marrying me."

He puts the necklace on, before presenting you with a bouquet of seasonal flowers from a nearby vase. He coughs a little as you smell them, and then kisses you on the forehead and pulls you close for a hug.

Blue

"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!"

Blue pulls out a soul necklace of his own. You both laugh, exchanging the necklaces. He kisses you all over your face.

"I TRAVEL A LOT FOR MY JOB, BUT I PROMISE I WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY! I LOVE YOU!"

Stretch

He seems stunned into silence, speechless for the first time ever. He slowly takes the necklace, putting it on. Then he pulls you in for a hug, tears welling in his sockets.

"i can't believe you wanna spend forever with a guy like me. i promise to live up to your love."

Black

"WHAT A BEAUTIFUL NECKLACE. ARE YOU PROPOSING TO SOMEONE TODAY?"

He sounds a bit hurt. You explain you're proposing to him, and he bursts into a furious blush, snatching up the necklace in a hurry.

"I--OF COURSE YOU ARE, OBVIOUSLY! I WAS JUST TESTING YOU!"

Mutt

"you find that in the shop? don't remember that from invento--"

He stops the moment he touches it, realizing you're proposing. He blushes deeply and holds it close to his chest, nodding wordlessly. You kiss him, and he pulls you in closer until you fall out of view of the camera.

G

"You got the right twin, dollface?"

When you assure him you do, he chuckles, tipping your face up for a kiss.

"Just checkin'...light of my life, lovely, doll...I'd love t'marry you."

Green

"A soul pendant! But then...with me? My love, you've no idea how long I've waited for this. One thousand times yes!"

He picks you up and twirls you around, laughing and hugging you before he slips it on, kissing the pendant and then you passionately.

Axe

"........me?"

You nod, and he looks down at the necklace as if processing. After a long moment he finally nods, putting it on and covering his blushing face.

".......thank you. love you...thank you...!"

Sugar

"WOWIE, ARE YOU SERIOUS? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY...EXCEPT FOR YES, IF YOU'LL REALLY HAVE ME!"

He does a little happy dance, spinning around in place, and then puts the pendant on. He scoops you up in his arms bridal-style and gives you the biggest squeeze he can without hurting you.

Are there any funny Easter eggs? Like how in Stardew, you can find objects lying around if you look in the right bush. Are there any things that happen only on specific days or times/weather conditions?

We'll go with specifically weather stuff! We can do more specific Easter eggs on another post (sorry I know that was your main question!)

Rainy Weather

Foraging: Mushrooms (truffles, chantrelles)

Items/Treasures: Old coin, lost doll, antique ring

Snow

Foraging: rhubarb, icicles, burdock

Items/Treasures: rabbit's foot keychain, lost mittens

Windy Days

Foraging: maple leaves, dandelions

Items/Treasure: Faded photograph, broken umbrella, old newspaper, colorful feather

Check the beach the day after rain! Some odds and ends may have washed up on shore that can be sold or returned to their owners. Somehow, Stretch keeps losing that lucky rabbit foot...

HarvestTale - 1. How would each skeleton react during the pregnancy, and childbirth event cutscenes?(like in a game) 2. Would they name their child, or ask the main protagonist to do that? 3. Do they wait for to be proposed to, or are they the ones to propose first? 4. Who's likely to be possessive, jealous, or yandererish?

During the Pregnancy:

Does more tasks around the farm than usual to take strain off of you: Sans, Red, Sugar

Showers you with excitement for the baby, and extra compliments when you speak in the morning (bonus to your stamina): Papyrus, Black, Boss, Blue

Brings home new, useful items each evening over the course of the pregnancy to make your life easier: G, Mutt, Stretch, Axe, Green

When the baby is coming:

Sans

"you...you mean now? as in now, NOW? okay okay--"

He runs back and forth in the house twice before finally grabbing you and teleporting you to the clinic. He keeps telling you to breathe but you're pretty sure he needs to take his own advice.

Papyrus

"OH! THIS IS SO EXCITING! I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET THEM!"

Papyrus has a bag packed and ready. Off you go.

Red

"the lil munchkin is finally ready to make an appearance, huh? best be on our way, then. just keep breathin', sweetheart."

He kisses you and holds you, helping you out the door.

Boss

"The clinic? Why would we need to go to the clinic? I've been doing fine today....Oh! You mean for--! Yes, yes! Of course, let's go!"

He scrambles up from the bed and produces a bag. Little hearts circle his head as he escorts you out.

Blue

"AHHH I HAVE TO CALL EVERYBODY! MY LITTLE ONE IS ON THE WAY!"

He starts to cross towards the phone, and then stops, whirling around to help you out with little sweat marks flying off of him.

"OF COURSE, UH, WE SHOULD GO TAKE CARE OF THIS FIRST! SORRY, I'M JUST SO EXCITED!"

Stretch

"wha--now?? you're sure? uh, okay, okay, we can do this. here, honey, get comfy, i'll go get green."

He hovers around you a few moments, fluffing pillows behind your back, and then he leaves. You can distantly hear him yelling across town for Green.

Black

"ALRIGHT, EVERYBODY STAY CALM!"

He removes a pocket hanky to wipe at the sweat pooling on his brow. He seems to be doing the opposite of his advice.

"IT'S FINE! EVERYTHING IS FINE! LET'S GO, THEN!"

Mutt

"yeah, time already? okay, darlin', just relax an' breathe. everything's gonna be fine."

He settles you in bed and teleports away. He returns with Green, and moves to your side to hold your hand.

G

"Wait, for serious? Like, right now? Okay, okay, let me just...go get my brother."

He teleports away, returning with Green, and they both fuss over you until you lay down.

"You got this, angel."

Green

For a long moment, he does nothing, only stares at you. Then he hops up in a hurry, fussing you over to the bed.

"This! This is so sudden! Okay, breathe, we can do this, don't worry my dear, you're in perfectly capable hands!"

Axe

He flounders, turning around and around in confusion. Finally he seems to find himself, picking you up very gently, nuzzling your face as he starts to walk out the door with you.

"....excited...love you."

Sugar

"OH! WELL, THIS IS ALL VERY EXCITING, IS IT NOT? BUT I'M SURE IT DOESN'T FEEL TOO LOVELY, OH DEAR. LET'S GET GOING, THEN, MY LOVE."

He grabs up a packed bag and helps you out the door.

As for names, they all say roughly the same thing:

"There's too many good names, you pick!": Black, Sugar, Boss, Green

"You did all the work, you name them!": Blue, Stretch, G, Red, Papyrus

"Don't think I would do them justice. Go for it.": Mutt, Axe, Sans
