~ Smorgasburg: Williamsburg ~
The best time to go to Smorgasburg is during the spring and summer time because on Saturdays they hold it outdoors in Williamsburg overlooking the Hudson River. We've went to Smorgasburg twice. The first time we went, our favorite was the Mac & Cheese from Milk Truck, mainly because our toppings paired well with each other (grilled onions, mushrooms & sausage). The Brisket Sliders from Mighty Quinn was tender and the sauce was flavorful, however, it was a bit dry. The second time we came to Smorgasburg was mainly for the Ramen Burger. The concept of the burger is unique, but the execution was sloppy because they weren't consistent with every burger they make. One of our burgers didn't have enough sauce, which made it too dry, while the other one was perfectly cooked. The ramen was soft (we expected it to be crunchy and hard), and tasted like it was hand pulled noodles.
Heavenly Hash Bars
Really nice recipes. Every hour.
DAY 839
We've seen a LOT of Amsterdam on this trip. And a lot of it took some getting used to.
All the bike travel.
All the open-air toilets.
All the access to mind-fucking drugs.
I'm leaving that last one unsaid.
Anyhoo, during our galavanting tonight, we hit up a place called The Pieper. It's supposedly the oldest bar in Amsterdam. First opened its doors in 1665.
It was a good time. But I regret not striking up a conversation with THIS guy.
I've been calling him Rutger, the saddest man in Amsterdam. That look on his face? Pretty much like that the whole time we sat across from him.
These photos don't really do him justice. That mullet is Grape Ape purple.
Every once & a while, his eyes would dart our way. And there was some amazing amount of sorrow behind them. I just regret that I didn't bother saying anything to him.
Oh, Rutger. Will you ever find true happiness?
