Food ramblings...
Today, I made hassenpfeffer (rabbit braised in wine and vinegar) and of course I felt obliged to randomly blurt out (to absolutely no one) “Cook! Cook! Where’s my hassenpfeffer?!” I’ve never made it before. I discovered a portion of rabbit in my freezer and was wondering what to do with it. That episode popped into my head, so I figured what the heck. lol
In the Bugs Bunny episode, where they show the cookbook that Elmer Fudd is looking up the recipe, it lists potatoes. While I was looking for recipes for this dish, at no point did I ever see a recipe calling for potatoes. (For that matter, there were no carrots either.)
I did not use potatoes, but I did serve it over spaetzle. It was delish - and better still! There are leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch! Yay me!
Later there is tapioca. Had I been thinking, I should have made pfefferneuse. Only because in my head that seems logical given the “pepper” (pfeffer) in both. But I didn’t. I was inspired to make tapioca (from scratch) because my dad had thought he could maybe eat some earlier in the week. But I also knew he probably would not feel up to it by the weekend, so I’m eating it in on is behalf. Good thing I also happen to love it.
