cursive is only good if taught properly. i got like a grand total of 40 minutes in cursive and then got mocked for my bad cursive handwriting right up to high school when i could write however i wanted.

i guess it requires quite a lot of practice, we were taught cursive in second grade and by fourth or fifth grade we were free to choose the method of writing and i stuck with cursive because everyone else started printing (is that the word for opposite of cursive) and i wanted to be ~different~. the only criticism i have of cursive is that there’s a lot of variation in it, often making it hard to read other people’s cursive. i don’t know how it is in the states but in finland there’s an official center that makes recommendations and guidelines for all things relating to language and these include handwriting, and for some reason they love changing the official guidelines just about every five years, meaning that the font that people from different generations were taught to write can vary

@hastybooks that's the thing that really gets to me. he has a voice and he has shown that he will use it in certain circumstances, but when it comes to something that really matters, he won't. and that's more telling than anything else.
