“Redemption Arc Trope”
To be honest, I don’t see death/sacrifice as a form of redemption for a character. If anything it feels like a way for writers to think they’re giving a character redemption, but in all actuality, they’re just done with a character and this is a way of throwing them away basically. Not a fan of it, there’s other forms of redemption that don’t require the immediate death of a character who feels redeemed or would “sacrifice themselves” for redemption. It’s cheap and no one likes to see it happen, well other than the people who want to see the character die. Definitely feels like a win for haters more than fans of a character

I got to say just came across a fanfic where one character breaks up a wedding the day of and Holy Hannah is that unromantic. It's incredibly selfish and a fanfic trope I wish would die. You're going to destroy someone's happiness then find your own? Yeesh it's so terrible. It must be a youth thing because as an adult I just can't see anything good come out of that kind of narcissist destruction.
