I wrote this poem after reading about the Hatfield-McCoy fued
The Baptism of Devil Anse
I saw the devil baptized today,
the flames in his eyes disappeared.
I saw him plunged in the water,
and he emerged with a clean soul.
I saw the devil baptized today,
never thought of a man so evil.
The Tug Fork resurrected his soul,
greater than the blood of his enemies.
I saw a man baptized today,
he was old and his hair was white.
You would never have known
all the sorrow he caused
I saw a man baptized today,
afterwards he smiled and laughed.
I never thought the Lord would take the devil
to become as innocent as an angel.
