Hook and chain truck is the most common type of haul truck and it is widely used for hauling cars involved in accidents. With this ability, haul trucks are used by the police and self-governing truck companies, providing an on-road safety. The hook and chain trucks are commonly referred to as sling trucks. They wrap chains around the axles and frames of the damaged car to haul them to the desired location (usually to a car service). Since they scratch and damaged the car they are hauling, hook and chain haul trucks are usually used for hauling wrecked vehicles.
Boom trucks are type of trucks that are most efficient for moving cars from a channel or out of a hole. These operations require more than hauling, they require lifting. Boom trucks are capable of lifting heavy loads and can also be used for pulling applications. These trucks are mostly used for pulling out cars out of mud and snow.
Flatbed haul trucks are similar to the traditional flatbed trucks and they are used for transporting a number of cars at once from one to another location. These trucks are mostly used by car manufactures. These trucks might be a big investment, but they are definitely a future-proof solution, since construction operators will not be spending money whenever in need of such flatbed haul trucks.
Similar to hook and chain trucks, wheel lift trucks are used for removing cars involved in accidents from the road. The only difference is that instead of chains, wheel lifting trucks use a metal yoke. It hooks under the front or rear wheels of the car that needs to be hauled away. As the car is being removed of the road, this truck uses a pneumonic hoist or hydraulic lift to suspend the front/rear axles of the car, so it can be lifted from the ground. This reduces the potential damage to the car. However, these haul trucks are not suggested for transporting very heavy weights.
