With a roar, JD grabbed Cyprin by their shirt and slammed them against the wall. “Reverse it, Cyprin!” they demanded, practically shouting in the demigod’s face. “Bring her back!”
Cyprin grabbed JD’s wrists and shook their head, trying to remain calm. “I can’t, Davies. Once a god is awoken there’s no way—”
“Bullshit! Hekate is from your world! All that godly power and there’s no way? There has to be a way! Get your mother here! No—get your wife here and have her channel Hera and order her to—”
“Dammit, Davies, it doesn’t work like that!”
“It has to!” JD cried, tears in their eyes. Try as they might, they couldn’t keep a hold of their anger. Not when soul-crushing despair was so much stronger, dousing the fire in their veins for something so much colder and far much worse. “I-it has to! We can’t—we can’t—!”
With a choked whimper, they let Cyprin go. Slapping a hand over their mouth to muffle a sob, they stumbled back away from the agent until their back hit the wall opposite. They crumpled, sliding down until they were sitting on the floor. Tears gathered in their eyes, and they sobbed into their hand.
Opposite, Alex could only watch JD break down with sad, knowing eyes. In their head, they completed JD’s words.
We can’t lose her!
Alex knew the feeling all too well, and if Medusa was here with them instead at home with their pregnant wife, she would as well. Despite the differences, it was all too familiar.
Except this time, there were more than two hearts breaking.
Except this time, they were too late.
Alex walked over to JD, and crouched down in front of them. They placed a hand on their leather covered shoulder and squeezed firmly.
“I’m sorry, JD,” they apologised softly. “But there’s nothing that can be done. Once awakened, the godly soul takes over, and the mortal soul is…”
Gone. Lost in the sweeping, all consuming tidal wave of divine power. Never to be found again.
(This could’ve been them. This could’ve been them and Medusa if neither of them had realised. If they hadn’t teamed-up and put aside their differences for her, the love of their lives, the woman they wanted to spend the rest of eternity with. They would’ve lost her, and it would’ve been all their fault because they were too busy being stubborn and selfish with her heart.)
They inhaled deeply. Exhaled. Closed their eyes and squeezed again. “I’m sorry.”
The Jersey Devil broke. Loud, heart-wrenching sobs filled the room JD had dragged them in. They hugged themselves, clutching at their jacket, hunched over.
Outside the room, Alex could hear others sobbing, someone shouting, and a wolf howling forlornly.
For context: this is in the same universe as a Medusa X MC X Alex route, with Havenfall!MC being involved with all of Havenfall's Finest in a poly-ship, along with it being in my Hekate!HF!MC AU.
