What people think people with acne are like:
Person A: So, how’s your skin? Have you tried this (insert acne product)?
Person B: No, I’m just lazy. That’s why I have acne.
What having acne is actually like:
Person A: (points out Person A’s skin acne every once in awhile)
Person B: *becomes self-conscious about face, doesn’t wear makeup because it makes it worse, doesn’t take photos of face because they’re worried people will judge them, tries to wear makeup one day only to hear “your face looks orange”, they skip the makeup again, they are told to do to a dermatologist, the dermatologist rushes them and gives them a product that makes their skin redder than it ever has been, they tell them to keep using it even if the skin gets red, finally they stop using the product because they don’t want to look like a red popsicle, they give up caring about their appearance, a friend ask for a photo of them for something and they try to remember the last time they look a photo of their face and looked and felt good, years go by....*
Don’t assume that people have acne because they are lazy.
Don’t be the asshole to point out that they HAVE acne. Because they always know.
Acne is an easy way for people to lose confidence. You think one pimple is bad? Try ten or more. Every single day.
Don’t be a bully.
If you see someone is struggling with their skin, HELP THEM.
For lots of people, normal skin is hard to come by, so don’t make them feel any worse. Be a friend and be kind.
