What are some of those documentaries you have? I love space and I want to want more things about it!
well most of what I have is about the space race right now, if you want stuff that’s just about space in general, I’d suggest watching the Cosmos series, the new and/or old one. That’s good stuff right there, but I’m afraid that’s all the current experience I have with series just about space existence… stuff.
BUT, if you’re like me and think the history of space flight and exploration is awesome, I suggest:
-When We Left Earth (impossible to find on youtube, i had to buy it on amazon but it is SO GOOD. Uses tons of actual video and pictures of events, it covers a lot more than just the usual Mercury/Gemini/Apollo stuff. I started it mostly because I saw a clip about Skylab from it and boy it’s probably the best on this list tbh)-Moon Machines (Goes over the design process and history of all kinds of stuff built for the Apollo missions. I loved the one about the space suits. There’s so many great tiny stories behind every piece on these spaceships it’s so neat ;u; . Thankfully on youtube!)-From the Earth to the Moon (this is more of a docudrama but is still very fun, I’m not all the way through yet but the episode on Apollo 8 and how the LEM was built were both awesome. The LEM one in conjunction with Moon Machines episode about the LEM gives you a p good picture of how it went. But also really hard to find on youtube, I did find a torrent though.)
And then of course there are the movies Apollo 13 and The Right Stuff. The Right Stuff took far more liberties with the material and history, but is still a good watch, covers the really early stuff with the Mercury program. Don’t believe the bit about Gus Grissom blowing the hatch door early tho >:O.
I haven’t had a chance to watch any about the Russian’s space program but a few documentaries I’ve heard good stuff about:
-BBC Space Race I’ve heard it does a good job documenting both sides, haven’t seen it myself yet-The Red Stuff is about only the Soviet space program, in Russian with subtitles-9 Minutes Before Space I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about this one too!
then there’s also this amazing website about the moon landing that shows the video, speed, trajectory, vital signs, plus mission control and command module audio all synced together in real time and is really really cool.
EDIT: Oh there’s also this neat thing I found recently called KSP History which recreates historical launches and missions using Kerbal Space Program! It’s great because it gives some info about launches like satellites that most documentaries ignore, and also covers both the Soviet and American space programs.
