I think Golden Eagle should be retconned to be meta human or just a human with built wings so writers don't have to think too hard about adding him into Hawkman lore depending on whether he is a reincarnated Egyptian or a Thanagarian depending on the writer and version.

I don't care about how they made Charlie Parker a Thanagarian and a villian in recent versions, I really think Hawkman needs a protégé because I'm a sucker for grizzled mentors and father figures for bright eyed yet traumatized kids.

Friendly reminder reminder that if Avengers: Infinity War kills off Laura Barton, the Barton kids, and/or the Hawkfam in any shape or form as a (cheap) way to demonstrate the ~horrors of war~ or as a (cheap) excuse to turn Hawkeye into Ronin, I am 100% done with the MCU.

Who are all the characters in the Hawkfamily?

Hoo boy. You might want to get comfortable, Anon. It's gonna get bumpy and weird. Even for comics.

The first thing you need to know is that the Hawkman/Hawkworld mythos has been rewritten CONSTANTLY. It's like Donna Troy, only for a whole cast of characters. It gets weird.

The first versions are Carter Hall and Shiera Sanders-Hall (Hawkman and Hawkwoman), who were museum curators in Egypt revealed that they were reincarnations of Egyptian royalty and were given powers and the Nth metal (the iconic mace and harness) to which they fight evil and stuff. They had a son, Hector Hall, who'd marry Lyta Trevor, Golden Age (aka Earth 2) Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor's daughter. He'd also later become Doctor Fate.

Well, then they changed that in the Silver Age. Now they were aliens called Thanagarians, and a trait of that alien race was that they were basically bird people. They were cops by profession, hence why they had harnesses and maces from Nth metal. Their names were now Katar Hol and Shayera Hol. Also there's a subplot with other Hawkpeople Sharon Parker, Fel Ander, and Charley Parker (the latter of which becomes the Titan Golden Eagle), but they're different and only show up for a few issues.

THEN the writers wanted both origins at the same time so they threw in the reincarnation aspect, which is 'whatever' to me. I liked them being aliens and the whole thing was weird, but I've seen stupider so I put up with it.

Which makes Shayera die somehow and her young 'niece' 's soul or whatever goes into her body, making her Kendra Saunders aka Hawkgirl. Who's a totally different person but they share the same body. And then she died so Shayera can come back. Because God Forbid there be two women at the same time.

Mostly Shayera is Hawkwoman (except in the JLU show, where she's Hawkgirl), and Kendra is Hawkgirl (like in the current Earth 2).

SO ANYWAY, here's how the Hawkfam works out all in all:

Golden Age: Carter and Shiera Hall, and their son Hector Hall.

Silver/Bronze/Modern Age: Katar Hol and Shayera Hol, then Shayera dies and becomes Kendra, and then right before the reboot becomes Shayera again. Also there's Sharon Parker, Fel Andar, and their son Ch'al Andar/Charlie Parker/Golden Eagle.

Nu52: Kendra/Hawkgirl

Also there's wicked alternate versions like Warhawk and John Holliday/Hawkman, whom I also recommend checking out.
