I've been focusing on the bird imagery but Hawthorne 's Glade is a whole ass thing, too! The Hawthorne tree, the role of magic....I immediately go to a modern text of course, the Priory of the Orange Tree, which adapts the Hawthorne tree and grove in a really cool way...

But regardless, Hawthorne groves have been associated with faerie for a very, very long time.
