A fact that's very uncomfortable for those who refuse to admit that communism works or who insist that it doesn't is that they simply cannot reconcile the fact that for the vast vast majority of people communism created infinitely better lives filled with literacy, healthcare, education, employment, housing, community, and mobility while at the same time it created conditions for those who want to assert ownership and renteering and slavery and oppression to live horrible and incongruent lives. The ultimate reality is this: communism is the idealogy and practice of the working class and its allies. It is in direct opposition to and negates the ideology of the ruling class, ranging from liberalism to fascism, who pretends their ideology is universal but who only supports the bourgeoisie.

If you earn a wage or a salary; if you report to a boss, you are a proletarian and your ideology is communism and no hueing and crying nor hemming and hawwing from the bourgeoisie and their compradors will ever change that fact.

Sometimes I really despair at how libbed-up English-speaking fandom is, especially in the BL/yaoi/danmei spaces. Lots of fancy academic language to deconstruct and analyze text but a complete inability or unwillingness to examine the influence of geopolitics coughusaculturalhegemonycough influences the scholarship that gets done and influences the discourse. And ofc, lots of eViL see see pee Censhorship

Culture is a reflection of the political-economy from which it arises. It's no wonder that the english-speaking fandoms, who often originate in the imperial core, would repeat the same tired talking points spewed forth by the imperialist political-economy.

Curiously and perhaps horrifyingly, this dialectical relationship is nearly invisible if you aren't familiar with political-economy in general and base/superstructure in specific. So these fandomites go on and on carrying the torch of their cultural hegemony over the planet via the internet.

Tbf for a long time China was very very poor and especially around the time the USSR was circling the drain, there was a general sense of hopelessness. And while reform was necessary, it was not a good time for everyone (low-key lawless) and a lot of people who felt secure even if poor before left during because of how bad the corruption and exploitation got. My parents are very pro-China and always have been but they left during reform because if you're going to live in a capitalist state, you might as well go to a richer country (paraphrasing their logic). Won't deny I had a rebellious shitlib teenager phase tho :p Fortunately my history teacher was a socialist

Yeah that's true, but social conditions always follow (lag behind) material ones. My mom came in the late 90s and she was also very pro-China to start. However, today she's very much a hitlerite following the petite bourgeois ideology of the DotB she lives in. Ultimately, unless you are both aware and fight against the DotB superstructure you will eventually be swallowed by it.

i wanna talk about model trains but i dont know what to ask...

what kind of locos do you like? any particular countries or eras of rail that you're interested in?

Generally speaking, electric locomotives; I think catenary wires are cute and cool. Lately I've been trying to fit a chme2 shell onto a kato 11-105 chassis. It's hard to really pin down which era I like the most since I've only started actually getting into it recently. Like yeah, there's a lot of support for more modern trains and early to mid 20th century trains and I can also see the attraction they have (steam trains are awesome lol) but my dream setup is to take a passenger and freight loop from workers and resources soviet republic and make it real so idk, hard to say.

I really wish there were more russian/soviet trains on the market but they're literally impossible to find
