DAY 2 BOOK DISCUSSION CHALLENGE /Animal/
Okay so this is a really old photo (back when I had short hair) but I couldn’t find other bookish pictures with my cat.
She is my reading partner, Lili. She loves to curl by my side when I’m reading but every now and then she will claim my attention by walking over my books or just purring really noisily next to my ear!
I love books that have cats in them, specially when they are given unique personalities and traits; my favorite being Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami and my least being I am a Cat by Natsume Soseki.
I am really looking forward to read The Soul of an Octopus to know how the octopi’s personalities are build up. Are you looking forward to any book that has animals in it?
DAY 1 BOOK DISCUSSION CHALLENGE /Beginnings/
hosted by: @justlikejosephine
Ok so I’m moving back to Guatemala in two weeks and I’m trying really hard to look at it as a new beginning and not as an end. I’m taking my most precious books with me on cabin (If they actually let me) because it was through the people that I knew these years that I got to love these authors. And now I need them, their physical reality, to have something to cling on as I fly 8,000kms away from my present life.
*breaths deeply and whispers* it’s a new beginning.
Boyfriend: I’m sorry I’ve been angry and sad and unstable today :(
Me: 4,000 years of patriarchy does not mean that you are not entitled to have feelings and express them
Procrastination level: English Major
Okay so I have to write my final essay (and last of my major) for my Drama class. Of course instead of actually researching and re-reading the plays, I’ve spent the day listing funny titles (because that’s totally how I will choose what to write on) So far I’ve got:
400 pounds of self-respect: food and identity dynamics in Fat Pig
Who is on Top? postmodern identities in the multicultural menagerie of Top Girls
The Moth and the Beast: animal symbolism in A Streetcar Named Desire
Crossing the border: dual migration in A Streetcar Named Desire
Patriarchal Vampire: object memory in Dead Man’s Cellphone
Scholarship to the Void
AAHHH
Ok so I just wrote my essay to apply for a scholarship and I have absolutely no idea whether this is correct. Like how should I start? How many details are enough personal details? I planned on developing my teaching experience and ended up making a beautiful paragraph on my environmental concern and how it is intertwined with how people interact with each other, Chimamanda Adichie quoted on the importance of hearing more than a single story. I read all the tutorials I could find on how to write this kind of essay, but used as I am to write in utterly-non-personal-academic-style I cringe at seeing so many self references. Dear selection committee, can you see my passion?
