Mumbo Jumbo Pokemon.... . . . . . . .. . . .
More hermitcraft pokemon stuff :]
Every time someone asks me why Watcher RT exists I find some new even more niche au to insert him into with even more convoluted justifications
Bruh where did you get that thing??
If I don't draw him standing around staring directly into the camera in a vaguely threatening manner at least three times a year I will collapse and die
Me when the nepotism hire with the job I should have walks in
olease. please i want to hear about the hermitcraft pokemon au so bad. this includes watcher rt <333333333
YAY YAY YAY YIPPEE!! I have wanted an excuse to ramble about the actual lore of this AU for so long you don't even know man
SO. there's this region Solas. It's a fairly newly established region out on this volcanic island kind of north of Alola. The island was formed fairly recently and so hadn't had human inhabitants until about 20-25 years ago. It's known for its political and social isolation, but also for the fact that it seems to be the home of many great artists, scientists, and architects. Nobody knows a ton about the group that founded the island other than they seem to have come from Alola. The group who founded the island have since then been highly selective with who they let in, but those people that have been let in are largely runaways and refugees from other regions who have experienced some hardship, often relating to the evil teams of the other regions.
Recently, as the region has come into its own, and with the acquisition of a new regional professor, there is a growing want to open up the island to the outside world, and so they've begun to establish a pokemon league, and are testing letting people in to compete. However, at the same time as the island is opening up, a group referring to themselves as The Watchers have begun to pop up causing problems across the island, pushing some to believe that opening the region up to the outside world might be a mistake.
Were this a game you were playing through I'd like to think you arrive on the island as a journalist or researcher of some kind hoping to learn more about the mysterious isolated region, and get encouraged by your contact on the island, the Professor who has been the driving force behind instituting the League, to join the league challenge and use it as a vehicle to travel the whole island experiencing all it has to offer.
The professor in question is of course Xisuma. Your rival is Grian. The gym leaders are XB, the water specialist, Keralis, the ground specialist, Joe, the bug specialist, Pearl, the flying specialist, Etho, the poison specialist, Mumbo, the electric and steel specialist, Joel, the fairy specialist, and Ren, the dark specialist. The elite four is Tango, the ice specialist, False, the fighting specialist, Bdubs, the rock specialist, and Gem, the dragon specialist. At the end you get a neat little surprise when you find out that Xisuma is also the region champion, with a specialization in ghost type pokemon :]
As you travel across the island competing in the league you meet all of these strange and interesting people and slowly learn that most of them are from other regions, and have left them for good reason.
XB and Keralis are from Hoenn and were previously members of Teams Aqua and Magma respectively, rivals until the whole disaster with Kyogre and Groudon brought them together and caused them to flee the region. Joe is from Sinnoh, another close neighbor of the island, and used to be a member of Team Galactic until Cyrus got taken by Giratina, at which point he fled to Paldea and met Cleo, who had up until very recently been a researcher in Area Zero. The two of them came to Solas together. Etho grew up in Unova but left when his brothers got mixed up in Team Plasma and his refusal to join with them put a target on his back. Bdubs is from Kanto and seems rather uninclined to talk about it much further. Mumbo is from Johto, and was almost 'recruited' by Team Rocket. Joel doesn't actually know where he's from, he's got some memory issues, but he seems perfectly happy here on Solas. Xisuma used to be a researcher in Galar working for Macro Cosmos, and was pretty horrified by all that stuff Rose did using his research, hence him eventually ending up here on Solas.
Everyone has their own scars and stories and their own opinions on opening up the island based on those experiences. it is kind of the personal question of opening yourself back up to the world after some kind of trauma playing out on a societal scale.
Grian, your rival, is the grandson of one of the founding members of the region, and current heir to Aspicio, one of the largest corporations on the island, still run by his grandfather. He was born off the island, but isn't old enough to remember anything other than it, though he's certainly heard stories from his grandfather. Aspicio is a security company, they specialize in surveillance and prevention, but also provide things like hired private security, and they have a technology development department for. No reason in particular! They're largely behind the financial success of the region, but they are also behind the way the island has been kept so locked down and isolated over the years.
They seem to be aware of almost anything happening on the island at any given time, except, it seems, The Watchers, who seem to keep getting away with their schemes uninterrupted. It is also completely unsuspicious that both Aspicio and The Watchers seem to specialize in psychic and flying type pokemon. Don't worry about it!
Daniel is the direct assistant to the CEO of Aspicio and seems to pop up around the island pretty often, usually to check on Grian on his grandfather's behalf, and pull him aside for completely innocuous business conversations that are not suspicious at all. Don't think too hard about the fact that neither of them ever seem to be around when you encounter anyone from The Watchers. Or the fact that Daniel, second in command of a security company largely focused on surveillance, seems to know far more than he should about everything happening on the island besides The Watchers.
In the end you mayhaps find out that Grian is the leader of The Watchers, under his grandfather's direction at Aspicio, and that their whole existence was essentially a psyop to manufacture consent for closing off the island to the outside world again. And when that doesn't fully work, Daniel has a backup plan, mayhaps involving some information he collected off of Joe involving a legendary pokemon from the Paldea region... (Terapagos it's Terapagos, they're going to try to use Terapagos's shielding ability to literally seal off the island from the outside world)
Buttttt yeah that's about as much as I can speed run all of that lore before I have to go to class. I've been spinning this au around in my head for like two months now. I have a. Vague map. And a pokedex in a spreadsheet based on Galar, Sinnoh, and Alola, cause I kind of think those are the regions surrounding it. And a bunch of pokemon teams mapped out in a Different spreadsheet for all the league characters and The Watchers and Aspicio. And I. Don't really know what I'm gonna do with this AU lol
I kind of started it as an excuse to draw hermits with pokemon, and then the lore spiraled out of hand, and now I essentially have a whole game plot on my hands and both no ability and no time to spend making a fan game or whatever. I've kind of thought it would be fun to turn it into a cobblemon map, but I also know I don't have the time and energy for that either. Like. That would take me years lmao
So idk. It might just be another one of those AUs I make disjointed art and answer asks about forever and ever 🥹 I'm having fun in spreadsheet hell though 🤭
I love when I'm locked in on a project of some kind that should be highly postable but I do so in a way that makes it entirely unsharable
