Every time he got Riku back somehow he slipped right back through his fingers. Just like that day on the island when their hands didn’t quite touch.

It started with screaming, he was blaming Riku, crying haunting sobs. “Why can’t you take me with you! I don’t want to be here anymore. Not without you. Not again.”

Lashing out, letting himself carelessly get hurt on missions to feel the blood mix with his sweat and tears until he got reprimanded and demoted to paperwork duty.

But, what could the masters do? What could anyone do? The keyblade chose him. They couldn’t take it away from him. The Keyblade. That’s who’s fault it really was. That was the source of all the hurt.

A lone trek started, a silent one. He dug his keyblade into the sand and let it sit in the graves with the other lost blades. He made a wish with his newly frigid and shattered heart.

Unarmed he let himself get attacked, swarmed and fell beside his blade.

The next time he’d pick it up, he’d look at the world anew with bright amber eyes, silver highlights threading his hair. The darkness had protected Riku once, and now it was going to help him avenge the real problem. The light that always came with casualties. To bathe in the dark, to consume the light... The way to fix the hole in his heart was to cast his heart aside for good.
