she doesn’t realize how close they are to one another until she’s looking at him , there’s no snacks between them , no excuse for distance nor any excuses for them to be close like this; it just seems to happen when she’s with him. 

their noses are almost touching , she can feel herself holding her breath , reading his features and wondering if something is about to happen; her heart is thundering in her chest , voice barely above a whisper when she speaks again. ‘ your- your eyes are really pretty , do you know that ... ? ‘

        he was a heavy sleeper  ,  he had to be when he spent most of his life on a boat where the sway could make the toughest of men come down with nausea  .  he had seen his crew suffer  ,  𝖍𝖊 𝖍𝖆𝖉 𝖇𝖊𝖊𝖓 𝖔𝖓 𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖘𝖕𝖔𝖙 𝖍𝖎𝖒𝖘𝖊𝖑𝖋 as well but after many years and many storms threatening to destroy his only love  ,  he could sleep through anything  .  𝖒𝖆𝖞𝖇𝖊 𝖊𝖛𝖊𝖓 𝖆𝖓 𝖊𝖆𝖗𝖙𝖍𝖖𝖚𝖆𝖐𝖊   ,  although he hasnt been able to test that theory yet  .  “  are you watching me sleep  ?  “  he wondered  ,  mind still foggy with sleep but the sensation that he was being watched was so powerful  ,  it was probably the reason why he woke up in the first place  .  he tugged on the blankets to have them cover his entire body and head  ,  keen on sleeping more  .

     -- “are you sure i’m the right person to practice this on?” he’s been laughing at the silly pick up lines for the better half of the last hour. when he agreed to help his friend in figuring out a way to confess to their crush, he didn’t expect it to be this cringy. “dude, you suck at this.” not that he really had room to talk, but still! there’s no way this was the kind of game they had, they had to have something better right?

       ✧  cowardice; it consumes him the moment he’s in the midst of careless belongingness, trying so hard to seem relatable with the majority of his so-called friends. after all, a social creature like maxie has this façade of having his shit together, that it’s only natural for the others to nod along and share their positive memories with their parents. he quietly waits for them to leave, taking a sudden detour when he turns on his heel and walks back over to this mutual friend. “ i lied, ” he reveals with sad eyes pointed to the floor. maxie is looking rather defeated and yet it feels liberating to speak of the cold hard truth, especially when it’s not every day that he gets to do so. he wonders if the other could see right through him as he continues, “ . . . i’m not okay with my parents, either. ”  @hcneysoaked​ — *

beverly can hear her heart beating in her ears when a firework goes off outside , everything feels so loud , more overwhelming than she would ever want it to be. the only thing she can focus on is the sound of elijah’s voice cutting through the noise like a light in the dark , she looks at him as tears spill down her cheeks. 

choking on sobs as her body shook as if she were a child again , being hidden away in her closet by her mother when her father would start throwing things in his drunk rage. she reaches out for him , desperately , as if her own life depends on it; as he is a life preserver and she’s drifting out to sea. 

arms wrapping around him as she buries her face in his chest , as if he would disappear if she didn’t hold onto him. another firework can be heard going off in the sky , a whimper leaving her that was followed by more heart wrenching sobs. 

‘ it sounds like a gun. ‘ she barely manages to get out , voice barely above a whisper. the prior being one of the first sound she had heard when she had gotten to her parents’ home that fateful day , two distinct shots had gone off and she could feel the dread in her stomach before she even stepped through that door. 

she holds onto him a bit tighter , sobs still choking her as she tried to speak again , mind cloudy as she tried to; words are hard to come by for her right now. ‘ elijah- ‘ i’m scared.
